Kindle Me. Back to Blog
Update: The Kindle winner is: Amber Schaber. Congrats!
I bet you can guess what item I’m giving away just by the title, right? Because, yes, the next prize that I have up for grabs is a Kindle. This one right here.
When I was a kid, I loved to read fairy tales. As I got older, I transitioned away from fairy tales and started reading those wonderfully scary stories by Christopher Pike. I loved a good thrill and chill. Still do. And those early reads inspire me even now.
When I wrote my BOUND (vampire and werewolf) books, I used fairy tales as the inspiration for those stories. My contribution to HOWL FOR IT came from my unending love for the Little Red Riding Hood tale. Some stories just stay with you long after “The End” and, for me–well, it’s those stories that stay with me that I enjoy the most.
But what about you? When you were a kid, what stories stayed with you the most? Is there a story that you still enjoy today?
(You know the way this works by now, but…the giveaway will stay open until noon–Central time–on 8/29/12. A random winner will be selected. Good luck!)

I always loved fairy tales like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
Cinderella is one my favorite fairy tales. I liked that a genuinely nice person could find her prince and happily ever after.
Cinderella was always my favorite I always wanted a fairy Godmother!!!!!
I enjoyed Beauty and the Beast the most. 🙂
Matilda. i would check out that worn and torn book from the public library all the time. Now I own a copy in hopes that my future children will love it as much as I do.
Loved Nancy Drew books.
I love the weird mind of Dean Koontz.
As a kid the scariest book I remember reading was Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot. I remember reading it in my bedroom in the middle of the afternoon when the one of the neighborhood boys snuck up to my window and grabbed the top of my head. I screamed and jumped so high that I fell of the bed. He was laughing so hard that he didn’t hear my father come outside and scare him half to death when he grabbed him from behind.
When I was a kid it was all about Christopher Pike until I found Stephen King and Anne Rice. My friend also turned me onto romance writers Julie Garwood and Johanna Lindsey. Maybe this is why I love the blend of these 2 genres into paranormal romances.
As a kid I loved Nancy Drew. But the book that stands out for me is Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. A great book that stands the test of time. I read it again a few years ago when I found a copy for my nieces and nephew. Still love it!
I loved Aladdin.
The Goose Girl gave me nightmares. Does that count?
My favorite books were the Nancy Drew mysteries (I still have my collection) and Grimm’s Fairy Tales (my Dad bought me a beautiful hardcover in the mid 80s & my daughter, now the same age I was then, is beginning to read some of the stories). A few of my other favorites were The Yearling, Where the Red Fern Grows & Call of the Wild…all books that I’ve shared with my children.
the Disney movies
yep many of its, including peter pan, alice in wonderland, narnia:)
Littlemrd riding hood, three little pigs
I never really read fairy tales when I was younger, but I did devour the children’s section of the library. I remember loving Nancy Drew and the Max Remy series, which is this Australian series about a 12 yr old girl who’s kinda weird and antisocial but also a spy 😀 I used to think that was the best thing ever!
I have always loved Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel the best of all the fairy tales.
I would have to say that I read Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys too. I got monthly books from a Young Readers Club even back then and I was introduced to lots of different genres. I wish I could think of a particular one but they all meant something to me, they created my love of books!!
Either Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty.
Snow White was one of my favorite fairy tales. I also always liked reading different, more “localized” fairy tales from different parts of the world (one of my favorites is about the Krakow dragon).
Biggest thank you I owe to a teacher was to my 7th grade grammar teacher – he introduced me to Jean Auel. Since then I’ve read all but the last one (that only came out within the past 3 years or so and it has been quite a few years since 7th grade!)
I loved the Chronicles of Narnia. I love the fantasy of it and it has stuck with me whole life and is reflected in what I read.
Honestly, I only started to like reading about 4 or 5 years ago. I hated reading when I was younger but now I realize that was only because I hadn’t found a genre that I actually liked. Now I am a bookaholic. I do remember liking “The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe” which I had to read for a book report in middle school, but it wasn’t enough to get me interested in reading more. Now I can’t get enough of romance or urban fantasy!! They are my addiction!!
Beauty and the Beast, Rose Red and Cinderella were favorite fairy tales.
I remember reading the Goosebumps books and loving them. I was always on the lookout for the next one to be released.
Believe it or not, my passion started with Strangers by Dean R Koontz. I liked reading books until then, but afterwards I was like a crack addict
As a kid, my mom told me the story of the Monkey King and his companions journeying to the west to recover some sacred scriptures. It’s one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature, but also a fun adventure story!
In the process there were dragons, the Silk Road, flaming mountains, evil wizards, impossibly wide rivers, and the moon goddess kidnapping a princess. Fantastic stuff.
Books with a small element of fantasy like Gone Away Lake, which had no real magical element, but seemed like it because these children found an (almost)abandoned town which seemed magical.
I loved The Chronicles of Narnia.
Does it suck that I didn’t really like to read much as a kid. Only thing I remember loving is The Babysitters Club books. 🙂
I enjoyed reading Nancy Drew books, Lois Duncan books, and fantasy/paranormal books as a kid.
I love Beauty and the Beast and I had the entire Nancy Drew series.
Yes!!! SO MANY stories – all I did in the summers was read. And who am I kidding – during the school year too. I loved “The Immortal” by Christopher Pike.
All the Newberry award winners – I’ve read The Witch of Blackbird Pond well over 50 times. Then there’s the very obscure but wonderful “Pigs Don’t Fly… But Dragons Do” by Mary Brown. What a find. <3
