Inspiration (and some Angel fun) Back to Blog
Update: The ANGEL OF DARKNESS prize pack will be going to…Tina B! Congrats!! (And, psst..I’ll be giving more of these away soon!)
Inspiration can come from any place. (And it usually does.) For my novella, BOUND IN DARKNESS, inspiration came from a fairy tale.
I’ve always loved the Snow White tale but I’ll confess…I wanted a slightly different ending for Snow White. Sure, gallant princes are all well and good, but I’d rather have Snow White wind up with a bad boy. And from that one idea–well, BOUND IN DARKNESS was born.
Remember how sweet little Snow White was supposed to be taken in the woods and murdered? That’s the beginning of my novella. My heroine, Allison, follows the wrong man into the woods. His job is to kill her but…
He doesn’t. Just like in the Snow White tale, our heroine doesn’t die at that moment, and in that moment, well, things get interesting. The assassin sent after my heroine is soon the one who is protecting her from every evil that comes her way. No, he’s definitely not a gallant prince. In fact, he’s a werewolf.
But then, my heroine isn’t exactly lily pure, either…she’s a vampire. And the lady is getting the urge to bite.
What favorite fairy tales do you have? Which tales would you like to see with a new twist? Leave me a comment and let me know. One winner will be selected to win an ANGEL OF DARKNESS prize pack that will include: an early copy of ANGEL OF DARKNESS (as soon as I get my author copies, you get the very first one!), an ANGEL OF DARKNESS t-shirt (size large), an ANGEL OF DARKNESS mug, and an ANGEL OF DARKNESS tote bag.
And don’t forget…you can buy BOUND IN DARKNESS at Amazon, B&N, All Romance eBooks, or Smashwords for .99! Thanks!!!

I like the snow white twist. Goldilocks and the 3 bears would be a good fairytale to twist. Hmmm bear shifters! 🙂

I would love to see a twist on sleeping beauty as that was my fave fairy tale as a child. Maybe instead of her sleeping she was a zombie 🙂 I love a twist on the classics!
I’m a sucker for the beauty and the beast tale. But I read a Goldilocks and the three bears book with a twist and thought that was great!
Thanks for the giveaway!
Beauty and the Beast. Have him NOT become human again, but they still marry..life would be very interesting.
Perhaps Rapunzel. She lets down her hair, he climbs up, but she’s secretly a vampire trapped in this tower.
So much fun to be had with these fairy tales of old.

I always liked the Little Red Riding Hood story and absolutely loved the Red Riding Hood movie. It gave the story that great twist. Like you I always liked Snow White and would have liked it to have a different ending.
I have always wanted to see a re-vamp (pardon the pun) of Sleeping Beauty.
Beauty and the Beast” was my favorite and my daughter’s too; she has the movie on tape and on DVD. There are so many “beasts” out there!
My fave fairy tale growing up was The Little Mermaid–the REAL story–where she doesn’t get her prince and throws herself into the ocean, where she turns to foam. What a downer…would love to see a twist on this one.
Having recently read Sweetly (it’s a take on Hansel & Gretel) I’m dying to read more based on that fairy tale.
I haven’t heard of Sweetly, but I will be checking that out now! Thank you!
Not sure if you would count it as a fairy tale, but I love Alice in Wonderland. I love the original story, but I also enjoy all the variations of movies that have been made. I don’t mind when people change up classic stories because I like to see fresh perspective on things.
Great question, btw! And thanks for the awesome giveaway 🙂
I Love Snow White. Mind you I love all fairytales lol.
One of my favourites is Beauty and the Beast. And I think it would make a wonderful Paranormal romance if the beast was like a wolf shifter.
Congrats on the new release.

One of my favs growing up was “The Little Mermaid”. Would like to see that one with a twist…I have to say I thought mermaid were good until I saw Pirates of The Carribean On Stranger Tides. 🙂
I loved “Bound by Blood” so as soon as I saw your tweet that “Bound in Darkness” was already out…I zoomed over to Amazon and bought it. Will read later this week. Yay! And I am totally itching to read about your angels.
Thank you!!
I also liked Little Red Ridin Hood and in the movie, she is not little anymore. 😉 Also Cinderella, not sure how the ending would change, but curious.
I love re-told fairy tales. Little Red Riding Hood would be funny with a cross-dressing wolf!
You’ve effectively added another to my TBR.
Thanks for the contest.
LOL, that would be great!
I’ve always liked Sleeping Beauty – not sure how to twist that, but I’ll bet the possiblities are endless to a talented writer!!
Beauty and the Beast” was my favorite.I love re-told fairy tales you’ve effectively added another to my TBR
Thanks for the contest.
Great idea….have to go w/Shelly and Sleeping Beauty…so many ways to go with that one. Who’s the Beauty? What kind of “sleeping”? Fun times.
Love your stuff!
Always have liked Sleeping Beauty, there probably could be a really nice twist to that story!
Beauty and the Beast can make a nice wicked twisted tale…but also Snow White and 7 something besides Dwarfs would be great…
What a great question! I’m a sappy one. My fave is Cinderella (Aschenputtel as I’m from Germany). So many possible twists!
I’d like for the “prince” to be a bit on the darker side. Rawrr.
Is this contest international?
If so: count me in!

I would love to see a twist on Thumblina, can add so much with this one in the paranormal world 🙂
I know there are so much Cinderella twist, but it will interesting to see Cinderella and Prince Charming switched their role 😉
Hi
I am would like the Cinderella twist. Love that story but it would be fun to see with with more darkness…
Thanks
Pam
My favorite of all times is Beauty and the Beast, and that can have so many twists… especially if the beauty is male. LOL
please count me in if it’s INTL. 🙂
thanks for the chance
I guess I am with a lot of others, Sleeping Beauty. But I would like a more mature version than the Disney that everyone knows. So enjoyed Bound in Darkness, read it quickly and it was so enthralling.
Happy release day! I agree with everyone that said Sleeping Beauty. I would love to see it made for an adults
Oh, Khelsey, that would be great!! (And I know I owe you some goodies in the mail, they are coming!!)
Haha thank you 🙂
You have the best, most grabbing stories, thank you.
I’ve read it this morning and am really glad I discovered your books.
Keep imagining!
Sara
Thank you!
Can’t wait to read this one. I would like a darker Cinderella.
Ooh…darker Cinderella…
I think I would like to see a remake done of Aladdin with some darker twists to it.

Another twist on Snow White would be great. Love the tale and would enjoy more twists on it…
Beauty and the Beast!!! Now that would be a fun I think to write something with some twists in it 😀
I wouldn’t mind reading Robin Hood with a paranormal twist or, like the others, beauty and the beast would be good as well
I love Beauty and the Beast, and Little Red Riding Hood. Oh the possibilities. Congrats on the 2 releases. Picked (on Smashwords) them up last night.
c.
Like a lot of people here, I think Beauty and the Beast would be my favorite. Cinderella has been done over so many times.
I loved how Gena Showalter, Jessica Andersen, Nalini Singh and Jill Monroe took fairy tales and created their Royal House of Shadows books for Harlequin.
I am loving this book so far, I am going to have to pick up the first one too. thanks.
Oh, Heather, I haven’t read the Royal House of Shadows books. Adding them to my list now!
Rapunzel.
Oh, that’s a great one!
I like the idea of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast being redone. So many fairy tales rolling around in my head. LOL.
I would like to see Robin Hood redone.
I would love to see Beauty and The Beast re-told in a very Tim Burton-y way.

Of the Disney renditions, I love Snow White and Sleeping beauty. My all-time favorite, though, is Beauty and the Beast (Disney or otherwise).
BTW, I read BOUND IN DARKNESS yesterday and hope to have the review done soon. It was a great read – everybody, go get it now!

Thank you, Elisa! So glad you enjoyed the story!
How funny. I finished writing a short story, and toward the end, I realized it fit Snow White. Only the heroine has the role of the prince, and the hero the princess. lol
I’m looking forward to reading your version.
Beauty and the Beast, of course.
I love Beauty and the Beast. I love the emotions behind the story.
Beauty and the beast would be good with a twisy. My all time fav is goldilox and the three bears
Thank you all so much for the comments!! It looks like Beauty and the Beast is winning the race. That one is such a favorite for me. I’ve always been a beast fan.
Does anyone remember the Rose Red fairy tale? About Snow White’s sister? (Am I remembering this right) and the bear shifter?
Snow White was one of my favs, so as soon as I’m done here I need to go buy Bound in Darkness. I don’t remember the Rose Red fairy tale, but it sounds interesting. You should “perk it up” and let us know when we can getit!
