Inspiration (and some Angel fun) Back to Blog

Update: The ANGEL OF DARKNESS prize pack will be going to…Tina B! Congrats!! (And, psst..I’ll be giving more of these away soon!)

Inspiration can come from any place. (And it usually does.)  For my novella, BOUND IN DARKNESS, inspiration came from a fairy tale.

.99 Paranormal Novella

I’ve always loved the Snow White tale but I’ll confess…I wanted a slightly different ending for Snow White. Sure, gallant princes are all well and good, but I’d rather have Snow White wind up with a bad boy.  And from that one idea–well, BOUND IN DARKNESS was born.

Remember how sweet little Snow White was supposed to be taken in the woods and murdered?  That’s the beginning of my novella. My heroine, Allison, follows the wrong man into the woods. His job is to kill her but…

He doesn’t. Just like in the Snow White tale, our heroine doesn’t die at that moment, and in that moment, well, things get interesting.  The assassin sent after my heroine is soon the one who is protecting her from every evil that comes her way.  No, he’s definitely not a gallant prince. In fact, he’s a werewolf.

But then, my heroine isn’t exactly lily pure, either…she’s a vampire.  And the lady is getting the urge to bite.

What favorite fairy tales do you have? Which tales would you like to see with a new twist?  Leave me a comment and let me know. One winner will be selected to win an ANGEL OF DARKNESS prize pack that will include: an early copy of ANGEL OF DARKNESS (as soon as I get my author copies, you get the very first one!), an ANGEL OF DARKNESS t-shirt (size large), an ANGEL OF DARKNESS mug, and an ANGEL OF DARKNESS tote bag.

And don’t forget…you can buy BOUND IN DARKNESS at Amazon, B&N, All Romance eBooks, or Smashwords for .99! Thanks!!!

I like the snow white twist. Goldilocks and the 3 bears would be a good fairytale to twist. Hmmm bear shifters! 🙂

  2. Carlyn McKechnie says:

I would love to see a twist on sleeping beauty as that was my fave fairy tale as a child. Maybe instead of her sleeping she was a zombie 🙂 I love a twist on the classics!

  3. Annie says:

I’m a sucker for the beauty and the beast tale. But I read a Goldilocks and the three bears book with a twist and thought that was great!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

Beauty and the Beast. Have him NOT become human again, but they still marry..life would be very interesting.

Perhaps Rapunzel. She lets down her hair, he climbs up, but she’s secretly a vampire trapped in this tower.

So much fun to be had with these fairy tales of old.

I always liked the Little Red Riding Hood story and absolutely loved the Red Riding Hood movie. It gave the story that great twist. Like you I always liked Snow White and would have liked it to have a different ending.

  7. Diane Sadler says:

Beauty and the Beast” was my favorite and my daughter’s too; she has the movie on tape and on DVD. There are so many “beasts” out there!

  8. My fave fairy tale growing up was The Little Mermaid–the REAL story–where she doesn’t get her prince and throws herself into the ocean, where she turns to foam. What a downer…would love to see a twist on this one.

  9. Amanda says:

Having recently read Sweetly (it’s a take on Hansel & Gretel) I’m dying to read more based on that fairy tale.

  10. Not sure if you would count it as a fairy tale, but I love Alice in Wonderland. I love the original story, but I also enjoy all the variations of movies that have been made. I don’t mind when people change up classic stories because I like to see fresh perspective on things.

Great question, btw! And thanks for the awesome giveaway 🙂

  11. Deborah Hine says:

I Love Snow White. Mind you I love all fairytales lol.

One of my favourites is Beauty and the Beast. And I think it would make a wonderful Paranormal romance if the beast was like a wolf shifter.

    Congrats on the new release.

  37. Like a lot of people here, I think Beauty and the Beast would be my favorite. Cinderella has been done over so many times.

I loved how Gena Showalter, Jessica Andersen, Nalini Singh and Jill Monroe took fairy tales and created their Royal House of Shadows books for Harlequin.

I am loving this book so far, I am going to have to pick up the first one too. thanks.
