Another chance to win… Back to Blog

Would you like an early copy of ETERNAL HUNTER (due in stores on 12/29?)  Then leave me a comment–tell me about your favorite holiday tradition.

I’ll giveaway 3 copies of ETERNAL HUNTER.  The commenters will be picked at random, and I’ll leave the contest open until 6 pm Eastern time on Sunday, December 6, 2009.

ETERNAL HUNTER is the first book in my Night Watch series–the series about paranormal bounty hunters.  I was excited to receive a starred review from Publishers Weekly for this book.  Here’s a snippet from the review, “Danger and excitement leap off every page of this fast-paced paranormal romance…” (Full review is here.)   And, one of my all-time favorite paranormal authors, Christine Feehan (I’ve been addicted to her Carpathians for soooo long), gave me a quote for the book.  (Thank you, Christine Feehan! You’re awesome!!).  She called the book, “A fast-paced, sexy thrill ride you won’t want to miss.”

Want to read this book before it’s in stores?  Then tell me about your favorite holiday tradition!  And have a great weekend!

My favorite holiday tradition is baking cookies with the kids on Christmas Eve. They are so excited to leave them for Santa. After they go to sleep my husband and I sit down and relax eating delicious cookies and watch the lights on the tree.

  2. Calila says:

I have to go with decorating the Christmas tree.

  3. Lesley says:

We always leave food out for Santa and reindeers and every year they’ve always finished the plate off and helped themselves to more! That’s my favourite tradition…

My favorite holiday tradition is watching a movie with my family. We either go to the theater, or pop in a DVD. We only have the chance to get together once or twice a year, and that’s always a nice family activity.
Otherwise… keeping my sister’s adorable little dog out of things she shouldn’t get into – such as the Christmas chocolate, etc. 🙂

I have to say my favourite tradition is decorating the tree. 🙂

My favorite tradition is going out together to buy the tree and bring it home. The smell from the needles that spreads in the apartment always gets me in the mood for Christmas.

We always watch “A Christmas Story” at least once during the season. My son Adam looked very much like Ralphie when he was little, so it brings back fond memories.

My favorite tradition is attending Midnight Mass. I love spending a few hours with so many other people singing beautiful carols, listening to the readings and just absorbing the peace and joy that comes from being there, and driving home looking at all the lights is amazing too. And of course when we get home we all have hot chocolate before bed, even if it is 2 o’clock in the morning~

There are a lot of traditions for Christmas and New Year’s Eve where I grew up: it’s a mountainenous region in western Romania. I can still remember the thing I liked the most as a kid, namely welcoming the costumed “bondroshi” in our home. Now those were kids and teenagers costumed as various characters, who wandered around singing Christmas carols. The tradition says that you have to welcome them in the house, where they perform a dance and sing. Usually the host offers them pretzels, oranges and nuts. I found them both fascinating and frightening at the same time.

I live in Tennessee and my mother and I always attend the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra’s concert “A Swingin Christmas” at the Historical Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville. They play many traditional and modern Christmas songs. My favorite song to hear each year is Charlie Brown’s “Christmas Time is Here”. It would not be Christmas time without it!

  11. Elena says:

My favorite holiday tradition is the open house my mom has on Christmas Eve. Since I was a little girl my parents have had an open house party for my church and my friends from school would also come and we would hang out and eat. Now that I am older some of my childhood friends still come and now we just talk about the good ol’ days 🙂 I always enjoy seeing friends that I have not seen in a while.

I look forward to our Christmas dinner & hanging around the dinner table with my family. And one of my sisters always flies in on the last flight that always gets delayed on Christmas Eve. We also always watch the Cowboys game on TV.

  16. Edie says:

I just asked my husband what was our favorite holiday tradition, and he answered without a pause: “Eating!”

Other than eating, we decorate and see a lot of family. My husband makes cowboy cookies, my aunt’s recipe, with chocolate chips, oatmeal, nuts. Yummy.

I read the PW review. Awesome!

My favorite tradition is decorating the tree while listening to Christmas music.

  18. Karin says:

I’m sorry to say that most of our holiday traditions went away when the older members of our family died. The younger gereration is so scattered that no one ‘hosts’ the family gatherings any more. Our daughter says that our Thanksgiving is the only one left. We stay with my brother, go to the Turkey Trot 5K Thanksgiving morning and then gather at my ‘Aunt’s’ for Thanksgiving dinner. We used to have over 40 there and now about 10.

  19. Teresa W. says:

After opening presents and Christmas dinner my family all gathers in the basement for our usual poker game!

  22. Karin says:

My favorite holiday tradition is a toss up between the annual Christmas Open House my parents throw the first Saturday of December and my family’s Christmas Eve tradition of going to my dad’s mom’s house for a few hours before going to my mom’s parents’ house for a few hours. Both are a lot of fun. The first really kicks off the season for me and the second is a great way for me to see all my aunts, uncles, and cousins on the holiday.

    Spending time with family

  24. Crista says:

Turducken on the table and shoo-ing the cat out of the tree. There’s been many laughs shared in my family over the years about those two things.

  25. Lorna says:

My favorite thing this time of the year is baking cookies and bread with my children to deliver to friends. It makes the house so cozy and it smells divine. We sip tea while purusing cookbooks and websites looking for new recipes and then spend days baking. The house always looks like a flour tornado struck. It’s the only white we get down here in Florida.

  26. Judy Cox says:

My favorite holiday tradition is going to Christmas Eve service, then coming home to see what Santa left under the tree. We always open gifts on Christmas Eve, I think probably because it’s my dad’s birthday lol…

Hi! My favourite holiday and tradition is celebration of St. Nicholas Day 12/06/. Well, in Croatia this is a big holiday. We put our boots in front of the window or balcony door and during the night St. Nicholas comes and leaves you a present if you were good during the year. If you were bad you get a silver twig from his helper Crampus and the gold one if you were extra bad. I got my share of twigs during my childhood 🙂 St Nicholas was a real person and Christian saint known for his charity work. European emigrants brought the story about him in the USA and that’s how Santa Clause came to be. I will always remember the night before and shining and cleaning my boots, my fear that I’ll only get a gold twig 🙂 and my joy when I discover that although I got the twig I got some presents too 🙂

  33. Nikki says:

My favorite tradition is cooking quiche for breakfast Christmas morning. My husbands family has done this since he was little. When we first got married I fought this with all I had since my family had thier own traditions. But after 7 yrs married Ive finally gotten it in my head thats its a must. Now every Christmas even after the kids are in bed, we prepare it and then stick it in the fridge. The next morning the kids help put it in the oven. The smell of it cooking is like none other, I LOVE that smell. While its cooking the kids open the gifts…just about the time they are done so is the quiche. No matter how much money we DON’T have this year, this tradition is gonna make it. It doesnt seem like Christmas morning without it…..

  34. Wanda says:

My favourite traditon is renting a hall to get together with all of my husband’s massive family to celebrate Christmas season.

I love decorating the tree and listening to my favorite Christmas album, Twisted Christmas by Twisted Sister. I love all the food and laughter that inevitably goes along with the Christmas season, it is very comforting and happy!

  37. Minna says:

    Baking and eating Christmas pastries.

  38. Anna Shah Hoque says:

My fave holiday tradition is walking around in my neighbourhood looking at all the Christmas decorations.

  39. Brandy says:

I don’t know about my kids, but my favorite holiday tradition is when we pick out our tree, bring it home and then the next night we decorate it together as a family. Hubs and I alternate doing the lights and we let the kids place the ornaments where ever they want. (With a concession to our cats, nothing breakable in the bottom. *G*) We play Christmas music and have a great time! We even still use the Christmas stand that was mine growing up.

  40. I think my favorite tradition is our little “party” we have with the kids each year since we moved to our house we have now in the country. We all pick fun food, and set up a buffet then we play board games and cards while listening to Cmas music. We do this no matter what, even if we have change nights to work around schedules.

    Thanks:)

  41. Sue R. says:

My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the christmas tree. I find fun and exciting decorating the tree. I always try to do something new each year.

  42. Barbara Elness says:

My favorite holiday tradition is driving around different neighborhoods and seeing the fabulous displays of lights and decorations. My sister and I did this for many years until I moved across the country. A couple of years ago she was here visiting before the holidays and that’s something we got to do together.

  43. Lisa Freeman says:

My husband’s side of the family gathers together on the first Sunday of every December. There are usually about 60 people and everybody brings several dishes. This is the only time of year we ever see about half of these relatives. We also go to our Christmas Eve Candlelight service as a family – even our college aged son goes with us. It’s a very special and meaningful service.

  44. cathie says:

My favorite holiday tradition is decorating the tree, well, no, I should say putting garland on the tree and walls and ceiling and doors and outside, etc. I love garland.

  45. My favorite holiday tradition is getting up at 4am on Christmas morning to open presents. I have always done that and we still do it with my kids. The great thing is that once you’ve opened and seen everything, then you can go back to bed and sleep in.

  46. Morning Glow says:

This is a fairly recent tradition in my family, but it’s quickly become one of my favorites. When we all get together for the holiday, we eat, then sit around and talk for a while. Then it’s time to play something, and we usually choose the game Scene It! If you don’t know what that is, it’s a trivia game that uses a DVD to give you the clues. We almost never use the board part of the game, just yell our answers to the Television. It’s amazing how violent this game can get! But it has it’s funny moments too. My Aunt Sue finally got an answer correctly, being the first one to answer, and she was so excited, she jumped up out of her chair and did a little jig. Nothing like some Christmas shenanigans to brighten up the season!

  47. Diane Sadler says:

When our children were young, my husband and I would be setting up presents under the tree and wrapping after midnight, to be sure they wouldn’t wake up. We would have a glass of wine and some chips,, watch all the old Christmas movies on tv or put on our Christmas records and try! to be very quiet; I’m sure they were peeking bt that was part of the fun.

  48. Sarah Ulfers says:

My favorite tradition is adopting grandparents. Growing up we always had an elderly person we adopted for the holidays. All 9 of us kid would mace or but them a gift and have them come early Christmas morning for the gift giving. I have some wonderful relationships with extraordinary people that has lasted for years.

My favorite holiday tradition is the wrapping paper fight. Everyone stock piles their wrapping paper from their gifts and crumbles it into a ball. Then at some random moment they wrapping paper balls start flying aimed at each other. I feel sorry for the “new person” if we have one because they are the sole target :D.
