The recent edition of Time magazine has an article delving into the increasing vampire romance trend.
The article is pretty good–Christine Feehan and Laurell K. Hamilton both give a few interesting quotes.
I don’t think there’s any question that vamp novels are popular, and it’s nice to see a magazine as serious as Time recognizing the importance of the genre.
But I do have one question…in the article, it says that Feehan has written over 30 Carpathian novels. I only count 15. I think the article writer meant to say that Christine had written over 30 books in all (not just vamps). So, for you Feehan fans out there (like me), don’t freak. You haven’t missed any Carpathian tales.

This is a really interesting report about the growing erotica market:

All the major publishers seem to be starting their own erotica lines, following the success of Secrets and Ellora’s Cave.

Nora Roberts is, without a doubt, one of the best romance writers in the industry. And now, she’s just signed a deal to turn four of her books into movies. Wow.
Sometimes I worry when I hear that romance books are going to be adapted for the screen. A few years ago, Julie Garwood’s For the Roses aired on CBS–and the story was very, very different on TV. That’s what I don’t like–the changes. And in Garwood’s case, I really thought the changes weakened the story. It was a real shame–For the Roses is a great book, but whoever wrote the script for the TV movie just screwed up royally.
But back to Nora. Brazen Virtue is one of the books slated for moviedom. Hopefully, the plot will stay the same. Hopefully. But even if it changes, even if the characters are unrecognizable, it’s still awesome that she’s got this deal. Nora, you are my hero.
Now when will her witch trilogy be on the screen, hmmm?

Okay…I was making dinner tonight…slaving away over my semi-hot stove, and I realized I needed a treat. Of course, a quick raid of my pantry showed no chocolate, no cake. A glance in my freezer revealed no ice cream, not even any yogurt.
Dang. I’d forgotten that I hadn’t bought any good food in two months–since I’d been on my post-pregnancy diet.
But, tonight, well, tonight I thought screw the diet.
And I got creative. I found a box of Jello, and I discovered that my hubby had stocked the fridge with Mike’s Hard Lemonade. A quick mix and viola–I had a treat. Or, rather I’ll have one in four hours when my brew hardens.
Come on time, pass…pass…

All right…I think it’s time I talk about Cursed.
I saw Cursed last year. After watching the previews, I really wasn’t expecting much–that’s actually why I went to see the movie. I thought it would be bad, and I like bad movies. Not gory, oh-my-God-get-me-out-of-here bad. But vaguely amusing, kinda cheesey bad. Yep, that’s what I like.
So, anyway…I went to see Cursed, not expecting much. But–wow–I was seriously surprised. The flick was funny, clever, and a little more than slightly scary. And with a tagline like “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”…well, let’s just say I was hooked.
For those of you who’ve never seen a Cursed preview, here’s the basic plot info: A nice, young heroine and her brother get bit one night by a strange hairy beast. Shortly thereafter, they both begin to change. They get claws, have sudden intense strength, and their sex appeal kicks up several notches. What’s happening? Yep, you guessed it. They’ve been Cursed. And, unless they want to stay that way, they have to find and kill the creature that attacked them.
Cursed is a really cool, fun werewolf flick. And since I’m currently in my werewolf obsession, I want to see it again. Soon. Actually, I want to buy the DVD. Hmmm. Maybe a trip to Blockbuster is in order…
