Rough draft–finished!! Back to Blog

I finished my rough draft on Saturday–stopped at 467 pages. Tomorrow, I’ll begin my review/re-write phase, so that number will expand a bit. The review/re-write phase should take me about two weeks as I go through and correct my mistakes, look for plot holes, add a bit of layering, and, um, kill off one character that I’d left alive. Not sure why I spared the guy–he appears in the book for all of two seconds, and there really is no reason my villain wouldn’t have killed him. So, I’m afraid he will be going.

Today, I’ll be working on some promotional material and trying to get some distance from my story (so I can go into edits with a more objective eye). Bookmarks and door hangers for MIDNIGHT SINS are at press, so I should have those soon, and, when I get them in, I’ll be sure to make an announcement in case anyone wants some. I really like the door hangers. Wish I had a pic to post of them. They warn, “Do not disturb. My inner demon is coming out…I’m reading Midnight Sins.” 🙂 Of course, there is a bit more to them than just that, but I think you get the idea.

I saw Tropic Thunder over the weekend, and there was one preview (Ghost Town) that I just have to share–paranormal and funny and with an actor I love:

I love the trailer. I’ll have to see that. What fun.

You didn’t say how you liked Tropic Thunder, so I assume you weren’t crazy about it.

Good going on the draft. You revise fast! It took me 10 days to revise a novella. Sniff. And I’m going through it for another revisions too, starting tomorrow.

hahahaha Cindy, spoken like a true Spike fan.

  8. I always prefer to leave a first draft from 2 weeks – 2 months before I start revisions — but the more I publish, the tighter the deadlines get, and the more I find I have to truncate my process.

Best of luck on the revisions.
