Writing Fog Back to Blog

I’m in a bit of a fog right now–I’m on page 402 of my WIP and the end is in sight!  I figure this story (my white tiger shifter tale) will finish at approximately 450 pages. So, when it’s formatted for the trade-size Brava, it will be about 300 pages.  Right now, I’m in the mood where I just want to sit and write–but, ah, my two year old doesn’t quite understand that.   🙂  So I have to delay the writing a bit.

Candy Ready has the second part of my interview up at her site. This week, Candy has an interview with me, book excerpts, and book giveaways going on at her place.  If you get a chance, do drop by!

wow that’s long! On formatting, how many words are on your 450 pages vs. how many words are normally on the Brava 300 pages. SMS is currently weighing in at about 74,000 words with the word-count feature. How many words are you at with your word count feature. SMS might need to be a tad longer, but that’s no problem because I still have to add a tiny subthread in there, and a few things need more clarity which in my case means more words.

    Thanks!

I find the writing process fascinating. Thank you for sharing bits and pieces of it!

Hey, Zoe! With formatting, I set the pages up with one inch margins all around, the double space using New Courier 12 font. So, going by the page count x 250 method, I’ll get about 112,500 words. But going by the computer generated word count, that number will be significantly less. Right now, at about 410 pages, I’m around 76,000 words.

Hi, Brandy! Glad you liked the process info! Thank you!!

hmmmm. Okay, then I might not be as far off my target as I thought I was. I might adjust my margins and font to see where that leads me, but if I’m getting 74,000 on the actual word count feature, I might be in the neighborhood of where I’m wanting to be. Length is always a tricky issue for me.

Zoe, I think you’re good to go. 🙂 So much in the word count game depends on what the publisher wants, computer count vs. old-fashioned way–so that length can be tricky. But based on your count, I’d think you’re where you should be.
