Sven’s Kick-off and Booking It Back to Blog
Today is the first day of the latest 70 Days of Sweat writing challenge. I’m so glad the sweating is starting now–this is just what I need for the holidays. This week, my goal is to write a minimum of 15 pages a day (yep, up from my normal 10/day) because I’m pounding out the last pages on my manuscript and, at the end, I always like to write fast. Yesterday, I wrote 15. Today, maybe I’ll aim for 20. 🙂
And in Booking It news…last night, I went old school style again. My husband found me crouched in front of the bookshelf, searching for my old Linda Howard titles. Ah, Linda Howard–another one of my long-time favorites. I re-read TEARS OF THE RENEGADE, THE CUTTING EDGE, and LOVING EVANGELINE (one I’m pretty sure that was made into a Lifetime movie at some point). All great reads–emotional and sexy stories. Howard is a master of the emotional and sexy stories.
Last week on BOOKING IT, I talked about how I wanted to read more (paranormal) Christmas stories. Well, my Howard quest last night reminded me that Linda Howard wrote three holiday novellas. Her work appeared in these anthologies: CHRISTMAS KISSES, DELIVERED BY CHRISTMAS, and UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR. Uh, huh–guess what I’ll be looking for on my keeper shelves tonight? 🙂
As usual, if you’ve got any books that you want to mention for BOOKING IT Monday, feel free. They can be stories you’ve recently read, upcoming releases–any books you like.
Have a great Monday!

Monday, Cynthia! (I hesitate to say, “good” 😀 )
I love all of the older Linda Howard titles, and many of the more recent ones (big exception: the time travel and the first person novels).
Just recently I read Empath, by Bonnie Dee, and really liked it; contemporary and a cool novel take on psychic gifts.
I’ve read almost all of Linda Howard’s books, but don’t think I’ve read any of her novellas. I’ll check my library. Thanks!
Good luck on the 70-day challenge! I know you’ll make your goal!
Hi Cynthia – you are right, Howard’s Loving Evangeline was made into a movie – it was incredibly bad, bad, bad! Here is what Ms Howard had to say about it:
“the movie is “godawful,” featuring a “bumbling hero” and “nothing” at all recognizable from her book “other than the title.”
I’ve recently discovered Nalini Singh (yes, I live in a cave!) great characters and worldbuilding, so went on a massive and hugely enjoyable glom! 😀
Oohhhh, I am a huge Linda Howard fan! Although, I prefer the funnier books like Open Season, To Die For and Mr.Perfect. *g* Dream Man is also one of hers that’s a favorite. That one featured a phsycic, too.
I just picked up Any Given Doomsday by Lori Handeland. *g*
Have a great day! 😉
Hi, azteclady! I had to go and check out Empath after I saw your comment. Definitely looks like a great read.
Hey, Edie! I love doing the 70 days–it is much more manageable to me than Nano.
Ah, Willa–I thought I remembered that “bad, bad” part. 🙂 If I remember it correctly, I turned it on and the actor that had playing the hero just made me go, “What?!” And oh but I love Nalini’s stories. I totally agree about her characters and world-building. When I start one of her books, I know I won’t put it down until it’s finished.
Brandy, I loved Dream Man–still one of my re-reads every few months. I wish she’d do more paranormal novels like that. I looked at Amazon and she has one called “Burn” coming out in July. I’ll have to see if I can find a synopsis on that one. And you have a great day, too!
That’s 3,000 words a day. I did that for nano one year. I don’t envy you!
