Month of Monsters–Time to Start the Party Back to Blog

It’s Day 1 here at the Month of Monsters event, and today’s guest is the always awesome…Vivi Anna!!! Welcome, Vivi! Thanks for kicking off the party!  🙂

Halloween is just around the corner.  I love Halloween.  I love getting dressed up and panhandling for candy.  The more the better.  Rockets are my favorites.  I also like the mini chocolate bars.

What I also like about Halloween is the penchant to watch scary movies.  Being scared kicks up our adrenaline and it can be like a rush.  I like scary movies.  Not the gross out gory ones of today, like Saw or Hostel, hated both of those.  I don’t want to lose my lunch I want to be scared and creeped out.  I like the older horror movies.  But my favorite horror movies of all time are the ones that are cool and sexy with young actors and a kickin’ soundtrack.

Here are my top ten favorite horror flicks.

1.    The Faculty
2.    Cursed
3.    The Lost Boys
4.    Dracula 2000
5.    The Craft
6.    28 Days Later
7.    Shaun of the Dead
8.    The Covenant
9.    Blade III
10.    Vampires

And these are the top 10 rated horror movies from the International Movie Database.

1.    Psycho (1960)
2.    Alien (1979)
3.    The Shining (1980)
4.    Aliens (1986)
5.    Les diaboliques (1955)
6.    The Thing (1982)
7.    King Kong (1933)
8.    Frankenstein (1931)
9.    Lat den ratte Kommain (2008)
10.    Rosemary’s Baby (1968)

You see old school horror is way cooler than the gross out gore fests of today.  At least in my opinion.

What do you think?  Old school creepy horror, or slasher gross outs?  Which are your favorite?

Also what’s your favorite Halloween candy?

One lucky commenter can pick an ebook from my backlist, I have a couple of spooky werewolves, vampires, demons, or Little Red Riding Hood!  EEEEEEEEEEK

I’m not a horror film fan, so there are very few that I have seen all the way through. A family favorite is
“Student Bodies.” It was made here in Houston and my
eldest son was an extra in the film. It’s more a spoof
of horror films and seems to have reached somewhat of a
    cult status!

Old School creepy horror. Way better than slasher flicks.

I love Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, the little ones.

Not a real fan of horror either, and I’m more old school. We grew up watching King Kong and siblings liked all the Frankestein movies. Every Halloween my BILs have to watch Nightmare of the Living Dead, I pass on it. Pyscho was definitely creepy, and The Birds. I still creep out whenever I see a long row of blackbirds filling up the telephone pole wires across parking lots around our town.

Have not intentionally seen any horror films so can only speak from seeing trailers. I think the older psychological ones are scarier than all the gory ones. Would not see either. With all the horror in everyday life why would I expose myself to made up ones? My favorite Halloween candy are the minature Twix bars though Hershey’s Kisses come in Pumpkin Spice and Candy Corn this year so will have to check them out.

  5. Danny says:

Okay, I have to confess that I don’t watch horror movies. I had to watch one when I was 11 or 12 in school and it was horrible.

My favorite Halloween candies are Twix

  6. Nancy Gilliland says:

Give me old school creepy, where the scariest parts are those you imagine. I think we can imagine much scarier stuff than when it is all out there in front for all to see.

How bout no scary movies? lol, if i had to choose, tho i would rather not would be old school. I did like Lost Boys. It was my first vampire movie. Favorite halloween candy, snickers….tho i really enjoyed when the neighbors gave out little goody bags with a surprise, one time i got 10 bucks!

I love Old School creepy horror. My favorites are Dracula and Frankenstein. I also have a thing for the Wolfman. For the best scary scene, it has to be in the original Jaws when the head pops out of the side of the boat. I still jump to this day.

My favorite Halloween candy is a Hershey’s bar. I just love chocolate and the only thing better than milk chocolate is dark chocolate. Yum.

Mostly old school creepy horror. There’s a very good reason those movies are still being shown. They created a genuinely horrifying atmosphere without as much of the blood & guts gore and special effects of some modern fright films. One of my all time favorites is the classic TV movie “The Night Stalker” featuring the one and only Darren McGavin. My whole family watched that movie when it premiered, and we were all on the edge of our seats, together!

Chocolate, candy apples, popcorn balls, candy corn.
