Mardi Gras Back to Blog

I took my son to his first Mardi Gras parade on Tuesday night.  Mobile’s awesome because they have this nice, alcohol free zone for families, so we parked, went to the safe zone, and got ready for some fun.

And it was fun. We scored so many necklaces, stuffed animals, um, peanuts…

Yes, all was fine and dandy until–

Wham.

One of the ladies on the float tried to throw a necklace to my son.  Um, it hit him. (If you’ve been to Mardi Gras, you know the odds of getting hit by a flying object are very, very high.)  “Mama, she hitted me!  Give that lady a timeout!”  Lucky for me, this was at the end of the parade, the very last float.  We were able to sneak away before my son’s feelings got too hurt.

Sorry for the picture quality. My (ack!) camera is broken and I had to use the hubby’s I-Phone–not good for moving shots.

And how was your week? Did you get hit in the head by a necklace? (Cuz it happened to me, too. Sigh.) Or do you just maybe feel like you got hit?  🙂

My week was busy, but no Mardi Gras. I want to change places with you! We have snow and freezing weather. You have Mardi Gras parades. It sounds like fun, even with the flying necklaces.

Hmmm. Is there a romance plot in the Mardi Gras parade? Something to do with flying necklaces? 😉

    Oh dear, the poor kid!

Not to mention you poor parents :wince:

I’m having one of those lives myself, but hey, that’s how it goes, no?

I miss Mardi Gras Parades. My week has been rough, until today. Son’s sick, Hubs is sick, but today everyone is starting to feel better.

Going to a small parade. Honey has to work. I only want to get hit with soft, stuffed toys. (yeah, been hit by plenty of beads.)

I actually feel like I’ve been hit by something more on par with a Mack truck in the form of family drama. Bleh. I’m looking forward to a weekend where I can hopefully not think about it for a couple of days, cook some good food, have some good wine, and finish a few sewing projects and some reading.

Week has been one of those crazy “Mom” weeks were there isn’t enough time in the day to get everything accomplished. So happy today is Friday!

Never been to Mardi Gras, sounds like so much fun!!! Sorry about your son getting hit by the flying necklace, glad to hear it wasn’t too serious.

I hate that happened. 🙁 Maybe you can take him to a parade on the Eastern Shore. I think they’re smaller and maybe not as strong-armed. Happy Mardi Gras!!

  8. During our first Mardi Gras, my sister’s baby teeth got knocked out by a flying frisbee. Mardi Gras’s dangerous! I didn’t know Mobile had safe zones. That’s nice. In our town, my family usually stands in front of the pub, LOL. It’s always a little rowdy but never too bad. It’s all about the kids here 🙂

Eastern Shore parades are much safer than Mobile parades!
And yes I have been hit in the eye causing one of my contacts fall out while standing around during a Mobile parade a couple years ago….
