Historical Giveaway: A STORM OF PASSION and A STORM OF PLEASURE Back to Blog

Update: The winner of A STORM OF PASSION and A STORM OF PLEASURE is…Gabrielle J!

Sometimes, I love to get lost in a great historical romance, and Kensington Brava author Terri Brisbin is certainly skilled at writing such great tales.  Her latest book, MISTRESS OF THE STORM, is a powerful blend of historical and paranormal romance.

An epic struggle for dominance is ravaging the Isle of Skye. And in its midst, a man and a woman are locked together by fate—and fantasy…

Odious though it is, Isabel knows what she must do: go to the one known as the Healer, seduce him, and recruit him to her power-hungry stepfather’s cause. If she refuses, her innocent young sister will pay the terrible price of her disobedience. Yet after just one night with the man she must manipulate, it is clear to Isabel that even if she succeeds, the deceit will not leave her unscathed. For in the Healer’s powerful arms, her heart is lost forever…

Duncan of Skye knows there are those who would use his unusual gift for their own selfish gain. Even so, he yearns to trust the beautiful temptress who warms his bed and fills him with insatiable passion. And when he must choose between her future and his own, he may have to risk everything—even his life…

Check out an excerpt from MISTRESS OF THE STORM here.

Today, Terri is going to give one commenter a copy of A STORM OF PASSION and a copy of  A  STORM OF PLEASURE (the first two books in her STORM series).

To enter the giveaway…just tell me–would you make a good historical heroine (or hero, for any guys checking out the party)?  Why or why not? Terri might make a fabulous heroine (bet she’s done tons of research that would help her survive), but I’d be terrible at the task. I like my modern conveniences (such as my nice refrigerator) far too much. 🙂  One random commenter will be selected at noon tomorrow to win both books.

  1. I could probably survive in a historical setting, but I wouldn’t like it. I love modern conveniences too much.

  2. Deborah Hine says:

    I love Historical Romance books.

I would love to go back in time and have a go at living in a different time, one of my favourites I would like to visit is Medieval times.

One of my favourite series is Lost in Austen where Amanda Price goes into the book Pride of Prejudice.

But I must admit I do like my modern technology like a computer.

  3. Carol L says:

I absolutely loved A Storm Of Pleasure. I haven’t had the chance to read the rest but definitely will. Terri has a way of writing that I connect immediately with the characters. Especially them Hot Heroes. lol
I love my modern conveniences way to much to live in the past and lord knows I’d have probably been burnt at the stake. So I’m really greatful I was born in this time. 🙂

  4. Michele says:

As much as I love the beauty of that era, I would make a horrible heroine. Besides modern conveniences the clothes would get to me. Yes they were beautiful but corsets, eek!!!

  5. Virginia C says:

I am definitely a historical romance heroine–I’m just living in the wrong century! If I set my birth date back 100 years, then I would absolutely be in my element…and loving it!

  6. Camille says:

Simple, I adapt to survive ;D though yes I love my modern conveniences I’m an old fashioned girl, though I may be more feminist than is accepted in that era I’m no bra burner. And having been a corset before I may just forgo those lol

  7. Viki says:

I don’t think so. First and foremost – not having a flush toilet would do me in ;). No seriously, I’m really independent and headstrong. My mother raised me in the 60’s when her “movement” was going on to be equal to a man always. It would be a battle of the sexes all the way with me. My poor husband learned this early.

  8. I would love to live in past time periods, but I don’t know how well I would fare as a historical heroine as I value independence and independence of thought a lot. If I had a hero who listened to my opinion and I could be a strong-willed heroine, I would gladly try it 🙂 (though childbirth back then frightens me o_o)

  9. Suzanne says:

I would be the worst historical heroine. I hate wearing dresses and I would be lost without air conditioning and my microwave.

  10. CrystalGB says:

I don’t think I would make a good historical heroine. I am too independent and love my modern conveniences. Your books sound great. Love the covers.

  11. Maria D. says:

I think I would make a good historical heroine, I’ve always been a huge history buff and enjoy the nuances between the past and the present. I would hate to give up my modern conveniences but who knows….I could help an inventor create things earlier….plus I could be a spokeswoman towards women’s independence

  12. Kathy Webb says:

I could not do historical… I have to have A/C and of course I have to have the internet and I would NOT want to wear them corset things…LOL So no I would not do good as a historical heroine 🙂

    • Cynthia Eden says:

Kathy, whenever summer rolls around (I live in Mobile, AL, so it’s freakishly hot), I always wonder…how did people actually survive without air conditioning? How?

  13. Carlyn McKechnie says:

I would be a terrible historical heroine! I like my modern conveniences way too much and you know hygiene wise this is a much better time! 🙂

  14. Minna says:

I like my modern conveniences way too much, too to be a good historical heroine. Not to mention I couldn’t put up with the fact that women just didn’t have as many rights in the past.

  15. elaing8 says:

No I wouldn’t.I need indoor plumbing 🙂 and all the modern technology.

  16. Hilleary Peterson says:

I think I could live back then, but I would have a mojor problem being treated as someone’s property. I am still a person. Women were treated fairly poorly, and men ruled everything. I think that would be a big problem for me.

  17. Diane Sadler says:

I don’t know if I could survive but I know our ancestors did, though their life spans were much shorter.
I haven’t read too many historical paranormal books yet!

  18. JeanP says:

Love reading historicals, but I don’t think I would make a good one. I can’t keep my mouth shut, too opininated. Very fond of my indoor plumbing and electrical gadgets.

  19. Annie says:

I absolutely love reading historicals. I love the whole idea of it, but there is no way I would be a good heroine in a historical.

Just last night my Blackberry died for a few hours and I thought the world had ended. Clearly, electronics are ruling my life because going out without an ereader is impossible for me.

Now if only hunky historical men could live in our time…

  20. desiree says:

I am really not sure I would be a good historical heroine. I really enjoy indoor plumbing and showers. And I love wearing jeans.

  21. ClaudiaGC says:

Oh, yeah I think so! I’m a history teacher and there are so many periods I would love to visit. I think I could adept fairly well even though I would miss a nicely tiled bathroom. 😉

  22. Angela says:

I couldn’t do it… as much as I love reading about that time period I love my modern conveniences 🙂

  23. I think I’d like it for about 5 minutes and then I’d want my bluejeans and air conditioning back.

  24. Leagh Christensen says:

I don’t think I would do real well being a historical heroine. Sometimes I am not much of a lady and I couldn’t handle wearing fancy clothes every day. I love my sweats and couldn’t live w/o them, LOL. I also like the modern day conveniences.

But on the other side of the coin…I would love to have a butler, cook, maid, and personal assistant, and not have to work 😀

  25. Khelsey says:

I have never been into historical romance but I like what I read!

  26. Blackwater Mama says:

I think I could do okay with being a historical heroine. I’m grew up being a country girl, so I’m tough and if it was all you knew, then you wouldn’t miss the present day conveniences but to travel back in time? no thanks.

  27. Michelle Bledsoe says:

The only reason I would like to be a historical heroine is the clothes. Otherwise, I like the modern times too much. Hello, I wouldn’t have all these great books or chocolate or *gasp* coke to enjoy. Also indoor plumbing and air conditioner, just to name a few…lol.
Even though the women wore lots of layers, I still like how feminine they were.

  28. Na says:

I can never resist a wonderful historical romance. To be honest, I don’t think I could cut it as a historical heroine. I am determined and capable, but after experiencing the modern world it’s hard to look back. Seeing the limited power of women had of themselves, I might get snappy or dangerous around power-wielding men. I’ll just experience the past through historicals.

  29. Marjana says:

I think I would make a terrible in heroin for a historical novel because I don’t think I’m brave enough to live in that kind of society because I’m too modern.

  30. StacieDM says:

I would make a great historical heroine. My college degree would serve me well. I studied history, philosophy and literature. I also studied ancient and modern languages. I focused on the social structure of classical cultures as well as their art, mythology and religion. It might be the first time my degree would really be put to use other than when I watch final Jeopardy. LOL

  31. Michelle McMichael says:

I’m not sure I could stand back and let the man take the alpha role. I’m too independent 🙂
I would love to try on some of the gowns though as long as the corsets let me breathe!

  32. Jeana says:

I think I would make a horrible heroine. I love my computer and ereader and all my other modern conveniences too much. However I wouldn’t mind visiting those other eras to see what it was really like and to get to meet some people from those times.

  33. Pam S (pams00) says:

As much as I love historical romances and fantasize about the clothing, the men, etc lol… I am not sure I’d do to well in the past before some of the modern conveniences and I am sure I’d be much to opinionated and take charge for the times.

  34. I don’t think I would make a good historical heroine. I am way too opinionated and I tend to curse like a trucker.

  35. Grace says:

I’d be a terrible historical heroine……I need tampons, electricity and running water! LOL

  36. danni says:

I don’t think I would. I’m too independent and the views back then would drive me insane.

  37. The Warrior says:

    nope not me! 🙂

  38. Lindsey Hutchison says:

i would like to think i would make a good historical heroine cause i would love to live in that time and go to ren faires all the time dressed up but i would not be a good one. i speak my mind way to much i would def be considered improper i love showers and even though i swoon over the males of that time and would love those dresses i cant help but think i would miss my jeans and flip flops so when i read is when i get lost in that time for a visit

  39. Colleen says:

Historicals are what got me hooked on reading romance… I love reading them, but I am not sure if I would fit in as a heroine for it.

  40. minhchieu tran says:

I don’t think I would make a good historical heroine, i need modern conveniences and technology

  41. Danny says:

I wouldn’t be a typical historical heroine, more like a tom boy. Definitely not a shy one, I would sometimes give my hero a hard time.

  42. leisa prater says:

I would like to time travel and try…I am always ready to try something different…Thank you lprater@modweldco.com

  43. infinitieh says:

I wouldn’t last very long without hot and cold running water. Still, I do know how to ride a horse, use a bow and a gun, waltz, and embroider. So, maybe…

  44. ChrisS says:

Mistress of the Storm sounds like a wonderful story. I wouldn’t make a very good historical heroin. Although I like camping and the outdoors, I don’t think I could get past not having regular bathroom and bathing facilities. I do think I would make a very good time traveling supporting character though if I could bounce forward in time every once in a while.

  45. Raonaid Luckwell says:

Dunno, I would like to think I would make a good historical heroine. Though I really want to go back to the time with druids.

  46. Robin K says:

LOL, Me!? Nope. Too hot headed, snarky and independent… then again perhaps that would make a great heroine 🙂

  47. Chelsea B. says:

Nooooooo! I would fall over dead without AC! Haha 😉 Love me some Historical Romance, though!

  48. Joder says:

I’d love to live in an historical time period for a short time, but not too long since I’m addicted to modern conveniences and clothing. I think I’d do well in the past since I’m pretty self-sufficient, but definitely wouldn’t want to go longer than two or three weeks.

  49. Betty Breithaupt says:

These books are going to really satisfy my love of historical and time travel. I often think it would be fun to go back in time but when I think that there are no fastfood restaurants or computers it loses its appeal.

    Betty

  50. Jane says:

I’d probably suck at it. I, too, cannot live without modern conveniences, especially modern plumbing.
