An Interview With Jennifer Haymore (and, of course, giveaways!) Back to Blog

Update: The three lucky commenters who will receive CONFESSIONS OF AN IMPROPER BRIDE are:  Michelle McMichael, Patty C, and LadyVampire.  Congratulations!

Have you read Jennifer Haymore‘s historicals?  They’re sexy, they’re emotional, they’re addictive.  Jennifer has a distinct voice that I adore, and I am very glad that she’s joined us for the release party.  In addition to facing her VERY busy life each day, Jennifer has been battling breast cancer. I am amazed by her strength each day. She’s truly a wonderful lady.

Jennifer, thank you for joining us!

Cynthia: First up…can you tell us a bit about CONFESSIONS OF AN IMPROPER BRIDE (for those folks who haven’t read it, but really, really should)?

Jennifer: Confessions is the first in my Donovan Series, a trilogy about the five Donovan sisters who grew up in poverty and then go to London to find “proper” husbands. This is the book I wrote when I was going through cancer treatment, and it was soooo hard. I’m so proud of it, though, because I did it–I actually wrote an entire book during the toughest time of my life. And I’m excited about the series–I loved the Donovans and had such a good time writing about them!

Here’s the blurb for Confessions of an Improper Bride:

TWICE TEMPTED

Serena Donovan left London six years ago, her heart broken and her reputation ruined by devilishly handsome Jonathan Dane. Now, with her family’s future in peril, she reluctantly agrees to return to England and assume her late twin’s identity. The price? Marry a man she doesn’t love and spend the rest of her days living a lie.

Jonathan Dane, Earl of Stratford, has become an incorrigible rake, drinking, gambling-and trying to forget Serena Donovan. Yet the moment he’s introduced to the prim and proper “Meg”, he recognizes the sensual young woman who captured his heart. Haunted by his past mistakes, he refuses to lose Serena again. But convincing her to trust him is no easy task. Claiming his lost love means exposing the truth and destroying the life Serena has sacrificed everything to rebuild. With the future of all the Donovans at stake, and their undying passion capable of triggering yet another scandal, how much will Jonathan and Serena risk for a chance at true love?

    Hi Jennifer –
Excellent answer to Cynthia’s question. I wish you a complete and total recovery.
I reached my 5 yr mark in June and give up Tamoxifen the end of this month. It is so true that you just have to keep going. I got it in my mind right away that nothing was stopping me from being me. I may have slowed down a little but all in all I kept true. Women need to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s hard to get there but you WILL get there.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing your struggle with us. My mom had ovarian cancer. There was really not much hope for her living very long but she survived their initial prediction which was 2 years, and lived 7. She said the key for her was pretending it was happening to someone else, lol. The doctor said her positive attitude was the key.

Here’s hoping for all of our sister’s sakes that we will see major progress at least and preferable a cure SOON.
    God Bless you.

  3. Michelle McMichael says:

I am in awe of you right now, to go through so much and still have time to write? You trully are an inspiration.
Thank you for sharing with us, I wish you a full recovery. I’m glad you have an excellent support system in your friends & family. Best of luck in the future. *hugs*

A very good friend/colleague of mine is going through breast cancer treatment right now as she was diagnosed back in April. It was a self discovery for her that I believe ended up saving her life. As she is battling it and I am witnessing it, I am even more appreciative of others that are or have gone through it. My friend recently came back to work with a new wig, a new pair of breasts, and a new attitude to boot:) She continues treatment but she wants to stay busy and I admire her for it. Her positive attitude throughout the whole ordeal is infectious.

Wishing you the best on your recovery, Jennifer!

Thank you so much for sharing. I too have a friend that battled breast cancer. She has been cancer free for several years now and has the best attitude of anyone that I have ever met. I think her positive “can do” attitude is what has saved her.

Thank you for sharing. You and others like you are the reason I take my job so seriously. I work in a pathology lab, it is our jobs to examine tissue and fluids for abnormal and cancer cells. One thing I have to pass along. Early detection, it is very important. Get your yearly exams, have a strange bump, lump, mark on your skin, get it checked out as soon as possible. Early detection is key, hope everything works out for the best for you.

Truly inspirational! My aunt died of breast cancer, she had just given up by that point when she found out she had it, so sad. I’m a cancer “survivor” as well but I had cervical cancer at age 25, and I’m 36 now and as far as I know still cancer free. Also thank you for this great giveaway opportunity! =)

Thanks for sharing your story! In August I celebrated five years of being cancer free from a colon cancer diagnosis (at age 35 — the second youngest patient my oncologist had treated). I definitely agree that the days are the hardest at the beginning but it is amazing how fast they get better and how quickly the time flies. It was wonderful to say goodbye to my oncologist but sad as well. I encourage you to stay positive and it will reflect in all aspects of your life.

  18. Lisa B says:

My mom is a 9 year breast cancer survivor. I was the one who was her caregiver of sorts. I went over every day and gave her shots. I took her to radiation treatments for 5 weeks a hour and half away from where we live and i went to most of her chemo sessions. Called blue cross a zillion times. etc etc. The best advice i can give is when you think it’s to much back off and take it one hour at a time. Sometimes it might be ten minutes at a time. Let someone else help you figure things out or take care of things for a bit. I think everyone has to find their path but let people in to help.

I’ll never forget the very last shot i gave my mom. I gave them in the back of her arm. She never looked ever! She looked this last time. She looks at her arm while I’m sticking the needle in and says. ” Are you sure you’re doing that right?’ lol Yup pretty sure mom done it like a million times.

Needless to say. She got through it the best way she could.

Keep fighting Jennifer. You are amazing!!!

    Lisa B

  31. Barbara Elness says:

What an inspiring post, I feel so lucky that I’m healthy so far. This year I was told to do an extra mammogram (a diagnostic one) and an ultrasound because my doctor felt a lump, even though I’d just had a mammogram. Luckily everything was fine, and they told me the results right then so I didn’t have to wait. I felt better knowing that my doctor wanted to make sure, and that my insurance company approved it.
