30 Days of Demons, Day 13: Saturday Snippets Back to Blog
Today’s Saturday Snippet focuses on Outtakes. Those scenes from novels that just, well, don’t quite make the final cut. 🙂 Since I’d celebrating my demon month, I chose to use an outtake from my succubus story, MIDNIGHT SINS.
When I write, sometimes I’ll try a few different beginnings as I attempt to get a feel for the characters and the story. Today’s outtake is an alternate beginning for MIDNIGHT SINS. This one didn’t make the cut, but it did help me to get a better feel for my heroine, Cara–the sex demon who really just wants love.
***
She was giving up sex.
Cara Maloan sat at the bar, her fingers idly tapping against the gleaming wood. All around her, voices rumbled and music blasted, but she ignored the sounds, focusing on her more pressing concern.
Sex.
Her head moved in a slow nod. Yes, that’s what she’d do. Give up sex.
Of course, since she was a full-blood succubus and derived her power from the sexual act, much like a vamp from blood drinking, the way Cara figured it, she’d be dead in a year.
“Hell.” She was so damn screwed.
Or well, actually, she wasn’t, and didn’t have any future plans to be—that was the problem. How come there just weren’t any good guys left to drain these days?
She swung away from the bar, swiveling on her stool. Her gaze swept past the dancers, most of them Other, and drifted to the door. The bar, Paradise Found, was a haven of sorts for the paranormal kind. A place to drink, party, and to stop pretending to be normal.
It was also a very, very dangerous bar. Because the paranormals, well, they all tended to have serious attitude problems.
There was usually blood on the floor by midnight, much to the enjoyment of the vamps who hung back in the shadows.
Oh, damn but she was tired of being a freak.

That’s excellent! Your writing is so great, even in outtakes.
Thanks for the outtake!
Its fun reading the outtakes. Thanks! :o)Tamsyn
Thanks for the outtakes, it was great reading them
Ooh, I like the outtakes! Thanks for sharing!
I love outtakes…it was wonderful in the switch from VHS to DVD and there were bonus features that included alternate and deleted scenes. It always adds something to the original!
The outtake was brilliant. What’s not to love about a succubus who’s so fed up with her life she’s willing to give up on sex. She sounds so vulnerable, and yet she’s totally giving fate or whatever the finger. 🙂
Thanks for the outtake! Interesting for me to see how you the author put a story together.
Happy Saturday 😀
Loved reading the outtake. It adds a great deal to the story. It adds a little more into Cara’s character. 🙂
Thanks for the outtakes.
Wow! I enjoyed the outtake as much as I did the published book; and I enjoyed Cara so much, wish we could see her again in your next book, in fact hope we get to see all of your characters, I loved them so
Thanks for the outtake, hun!

nice out take glad it helped make her more understood sounded awesome so i cant wait to read the real beginning
I like seeing how a book evolves over time and rewrites. Thanks for sharing something that did not make the cut and explaining where it fit in the writing process.
The first time I was really reading, even if it was a bit, about succubus was in HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT so it was so good to read more and especially it being Todd in MIDNIGHT SINS. Its neat to get to read these out-takes/deleted scenes. I’m glad you keep them. Its a treat to be able to read them, its like getting a bit more glimpse of what happened too that we didn’t get to read!
Thanks for that, I always like reading something extra for a story.
Outtakes are so much fun. Sometimes it makes an idea seem so much different than it was in the final book
Outtakes are fun. Thanks for sharing yours. I’ll be visiting the other authors for more outtakes of their stories.
