In the past, #IndieBookstoreDay typically fell on the last Saturday in April. Because of the current situation in the world, this year’s Indie Bookstore Day has been postponed until Saturday, August 29, 2020.
However, since today was supposed to be the big dayā¦I still wanted to do a shout-out to my absolute favorite indie bookstore: The Haunted Book Shop in Mobile, Alabama. My friend (and fab author!) Angela Quarles owns this shop, and it is absolutely fantastic. So many wonderful books!! And the store is SUPER romance friendly.
She goes out of her way to support local authors, to encourage literacy in the community, and in general, to just make the world a better place (because she is awesome!).
Angela, thank you for all that you do! I love your store so much!
COUNTING ON COLE releases in less than two weeks (on 4/28/20!), and I wanted to take a little time today in order to talk about the setting for the book. You see, COUNTING ON COLE takes place in New York City.
I love New York. My son is a theater kid and seeing shows on Broadway is one of our favorite things to do together. We’d actually been saving up because we’d planned to visit New York this June so that we could catch Beetlejuice before the show closed on Broadway. Of course, plans have changed. š
Iād long wanted to write a book that incorporated the bright lights of Broadway and the thrill of the big city⦠(Psstā¦Slight spoiler: The heroine in COUNTING ON COLE is a dance choreographer.)
But then the pandemic hit us all. And I wondered if maybe I should change the setting for COUNTING ON COLE. Onlyā¦you know what? It didnāt seem right to change it. I love New York. I love the people. I love the energy. So I kept my setting, and I imagined New York as it had been the last time I was thereāthe way I canāt wait for it to be again. Big, beautiful, and bustling.
My prayers are with everyone fighting the pandemic. I hope we all stay safe and healthy, and one day soon, I hope our world is ānormalā againā¦and until then, Iāll visit my favorite places in books.
