Time for another pick from my Keeper Closet. This time, I’m profiling a paranormal romance novella, “The Warlord Wants Forever” by Kresley Cole.
This was the first story I read by Kresley Cole, and after this one–well, I was hooked. This tale appears in the Pocket anthology Playing Easy to Get, and the story is also the first installment in Kresley’s Immortals After Dark series (A Hunger Like No Other and No Rest for the Wicked are two tales in this series).
The blurb: “Nikolai Wroth, a ruthless vampire warlord, searches for his Bride–the one woman who can render him truly alive. When his fevered chase leads to Myst the Coveted, a Valkyrie seductress who craves only freedom, a battle of domination and desire begins. Will the power of her seductive wiles overcome his strength? Or will she surrender and experience the deliciously agonizing lust that Nikolai has endured waiting for his one and only Bride?”
Why I like this novella: Because it’s brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. A sensual, emotional tale. I did not want this story to end. What a great twist on the vampire myth–and I loved the introduction of the Valkyries. Phenomenal writing, great twists and turns.

I’m currently re-reading the work I’ve done on my succubus story. I’ve written 312 pages, but I stopped the story to write my novella, and then, due to a family situation, I haven’t gotten back on the writing horse as fast as I’d hoped I would. So, now, I’m trying to get back into the story–back into the minds of my characters.
I’m editing as I read (maybe that will save me some time later!). Adding more tidbits about my villain (cuz there has to be one, of course! And I want to flesh him out more!), and trying to make certain my characters are behaving consistently.
After I finish this book (and I’m aiming for mid-August), I’d like to start another novel. I was trying to determine today just how much I think I can get done by the end of the year. Okay. Let’s say by Thanksgiving, because after Turkey Day, my mind will be on presents and Christmas trees. I think I’ll shoot for one more novel, maybe one more novella.

I’m blogging over at The Bradford Bunch today. I’m talking about a writer’s need to let go of fear…and I’m giving away a book from my backlist. If you get a chance, come on over!
