Least favorite paranormal creature?

Posted in Romance on August 5th, 2007 by Cynthia Eden

For me, well, there isn’t any contest–my least favorite para creature has to be the zombie. Oh, jeez, but I hate zombies. Maybe it’s because they are depicted as being so dim-witted (or just, um, no-witted). Maybe it’s the fact that, in general, their flesh falls off their bodies as they lurch after their prey (prey that can never run fast enough). Or maybe it’s just because they eat brains. Not sexy.

Now, sure, I saw Shaun of the Dead a few years ago, and I (pretty much) enjoyed the movie. But I do not WILLINGLY make a habit of watching zombie flicks.

Now, my husband, he’s a different story. The man loves zombies. Zombie video games. Zombie movies. Zombie books. If there’s a zombie involved, he is a happy man. He even has a not-so-secret (especially now that I’m posting it on my blog) desire to make his own zombie film: Zombies from the Deep. Here’s a plot breakdown: Scuba divers find zombies in the deep–wake ’em up–zombies then storm beaches and terrorize beach goers.

Ahem. Not necessarily the movie for me, but hey–different strokes for different folks, right?

So, tell me…just what is your least favorite paranormal creature–and why?

From the Keeper Closet: "The Warlord Wants Forever"

Posted in Romance on July 29th, 2007 by Cynthia Eden

Time for another pick from my Keeper Closet. This time, I’m profiling a paranormal romance novella, “The Warlord Wants Forever” by Kresley Cole.

This was the first story I read by Kresley Cole, and after this one–well, I was hooked. This tale appears in the Pocket anthology Playing Easy to Get, and the story is also the first installment in Kresley’s Immortals After Dark series (A Hunger Like No Other and No Rest for the Wicked are two tales in this series).

The blurb: “Nikolai Wroth, a ruthless vampire warlord, searches for his Bride–the one woman who can render him truly alive. When his fevered chase leads to Myst the Coveted, a Valkyrie seductress who craves only freedom, a battle of domination and desire begins. Will the power of her seductive wiles overcome his strength? Or will she surrender and experience the deliciously agonizing lust that Nikolai has endured waiting for his one and only Bride?”

Why I like this novella: Because it’s brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. A sensual, emotional tale. I did not want this story to end. What a great twist on the vampire myth–and I loved the introduction of the Valkyries. Phenomenal writing, great twists and turns.
