Adventures in Publishing with Fran Fisher (And Giveaway!) Back to Blog
Update: The winner of FOREVER, MY LOVE is…Moundsbar! Congrats!!
I love it when guest authors come to visit. 🙂 And today, I’m very excited to have my friend Fran Fisher as my guest. Fran is a fabulous lady and one extremely hard-working writer. Thanks for coming over, Fran!
I want to thank Cynthia for allowing me to visit her blog today to talk about my new adventure in publishing. Since 2006 I’ve written for Avalon books under my real name Fran McNabb. My fourth book with them will be released by them in June 2012. Last month I took my first step away from publishing sweet romances and had my first book published that contains a little more spice. Since I don’t want to confuse my readers, I chose a penname, Fran Fisher. Under the name of Fran Fisher I’ve published two books, PLAYING WITH FEELING and FOREVER, MY LOVE.
FOREVER, MY LOVE is my latest publication and it is one of my favorite books. In it, two love stories are developed, one in the Civil War Period and one in the Twenty-First Century. The premise deals with the discovery of a love note in the wall of a fort being restored by an architectural engineer. The note starts a chain of events that takes the heroine, who is a descendent of the author of the note, on an adventure to find answers to her past. Accompanied by the hero, she travels to an old plantation once owned by her family, where dark secrets threaten to destroy any hope that the couple can be together. Through the tenacity and stubbornness of a spirit from the past who refuses to give up on the love of her young husband, the heroine learns that love can endure even when life seems hopeless.
I think the idea of this story started when I was a child, even before I knew I wanted to be a writer. My mother’s family ran the ferry boats to Ship Island and one summer my mom, dad, brother and I spent an entire summer on the island helping with the concessions. One night an unexpected storm sent us to the fort for refuge. I think the images and feelings I experienced that night planted the seed for this story.
Do I believe in ghosts? I don’t know. At first I’d say no, but after being in a place where men from another century lived and died, it’s hard not to let your imagination— if that’s what it is—visualize what might still be within those walls. I love my apparition in this story and the romance between him and his young wife. I hope if you read FOREVER, MY LOVE, you, too, will fall in love with him.
Want to win a digital copy of FOREVER, MY LOVE? Then tell Fran whether or not you believe in ghosts (or feel free to leave her a question). One random commenter will be selected to win. Thanks for checking out the post!

Thanks so much for coming by today, Fran! Congrats on your new adventure in publishing.
And thanks a million for having me.
Congrats on your new release.
I don’t really believe ghosts exist, but I’m open to having myself proved wrong. I do enjoy stories with them, both romances and horror/mysteries.
No, I don’t believe in ghosts, but as a freethinker my mind is always open. But I do love a good ghost story!
Anne and Kathleen,
I, too, don’t really believe in ghosts, but after spending a night in that fort, it certainly made me think about it. If you read FOREVER,MY LOVE, let me know what you think about the apparition.
I’ve pretty much believed in ghosts (spirits) most of my life as I actually believe I saw my great-great grandfather, who had been dead many, many years, when I was 13 years old. When I described who I saw to my grandparents, they knew immediately who I was talking about.
Wow, Buddy. That’s amazing about great-great grandfather. Makes you wonder, huh. Thanks for stopping by.
I don’t believe in ghost, but only for my own peace of mind, I wouldn’t be able to sleep if I did! I did have a moment when my best friend died and I thought he was trying to contact me afterwards….. But I summed that up to be wish full thinking and missing my friend :(! FOREVER, MY LOVE, sounds amazing, and your cover is beautiful! Thanks for the chance to win a copy!

Savannah (what a romantic name!),
I hope it was your friend trying to contact you. How wonderful that would be! Losing someone who is close to us is a powerfully emotional thing, isn’t it? Thanks for sharing.
I don’t believe in ghosts but test my disbelief by sleeping on that island!!! Color me chicken!
Hi Marla,
That fort and island are awesome, but I wouldn’t call you a chicken for not wanting sleep there. Don and I still do, but we stay anchored on the boat!
That should have @wint test”
I do believe in ghosts. I’ve never encountered one though I have felt that strange feeling if you know what I mean.
When I was real little my family had a farm up near Watertown NY. We’d go up in the summer and stay in the old farmhouse. I remember so vividly that creepy feeling the moment we’d enter the place.
Vicki, an old farmhouse can be as “interesting” as an old fort. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Yes I believe I’ve seen ghosts/spirit. I always hold hope that there are ghosts of people that need to be here for some reason or other. I also HOPE THE ARE HERE FOR GOOD REASONS AND NOTHING MORE!
Me too. Only GOOD reasons and Nothing More! Nice thought. Thanks.
Hi Fran,
I believe their are spirits, both good and bad, surrounding us. I’m hoping most of the good ones are around me.
Donna
Hey Donna. So glad to hear from you. Heard from Mimi yesterday.
Yes, I hope GOOD ones are surrounding you too!
Ghosts… yes I believe… my family has had odd things happen through the years… Congrats on your newest release!
Colleen, your family sounds interesting. I’d love to hear about some of the odd things that have happened to them. Thanks for good wishes. I’m having fun with this release.
This past summer, we had a singing potty that would go off on its own until you told it to stop… we have things disappear and reappear later in different locations… my sister has seen a ghost for years and he has followed her to her own house… some interesting things….
Fran, I absolutely love this premise. I know we readers are in for a treat.
Fran and I share the same local RWA chapter, and she’s long been a hero and imspiration to our members. Good writing, strong emotion, and technical perfection are her fortes (check out her publications!), and she unstintingly shares her wisdom. Bless you, lady!
Also, Fran knows I’m a ghost hunter. LOL So FOREVER, MY LOVE is already special to me. I know what Fran means about that Island. Hubby and I have spent time anchored off Ship Island and in the fort there, and it’s an awe inspiring place with intriguing history (pirate stronghold, Civil War base, Civil War POW Camp, leper colony, and more). It invokes so much emotion, even more so when the sun goes down and the island empties of visitors. It’s on the list for our paranormal investigation group to include in a book of haunted destinations in the South. (And one of the investigations I want to tweet live!)
When our paranormal group sets up to do promo work or take applications for investigators, we love to be able to mention local places of interest to visitors. I’d love to have permission to tell them about FOREVER, MY LOVE and it’s connection to ship Island. May I, may I, pretty please? *making puppy dog eyes*
Congratulations again, Fran!
Lois, you’re a hoot! Of course you can mention my book. In fact, I’d be honored if you would. I know you understand my feelings about the fort if you’ve been there. Thanks for the insight and the accolades. I’m blushing.
Do I believe in ghosts, yes. Do I want to see one, NO. I do however love reading about them. Can’t wait to read you’re book. My question to you is, What do you think you would do if you ever saw a ghost?—Rachel
What would I do? That’s easy. I would probably pass out! But when I wrote this book, my ghost didn’t scare me at all. I loved him from the start.
Hope you get to read it.
Fran, is a wonderful leader, mentor and a great writer. She gives us great advice, and guides us all with positive thoughts, and information. Congrats on your new release. I know it’ll be a hit.
I also believe in ghost. Personally I haven’t seen any, but I have taken a picture of one in the hotel Monteleone in the French Quarters of New Orleans. Not to mention, my husband lived with one growing up. My daughter seen on on Runere’s property. So they are out there, hovering in shadows of darkness.
Paul, thank you for the sweet words. I’m amazed at how many readers have seen ghosts or know someone who has. Thanks for sharing and keep writing. You’re next to be prublished!
Paula, sorry I misspelled your name. I know you’re not PAUL.
Fran,
I do believe in spirits. Some are friendly, others not so much. Congrats on your new release.
Thanks for stopping by, Jan.
