My Guy Has Wings!
From Mia Marlowe…
First of all, congrats to Cynthia on the release of Angel of Darkness. It sounds delicious! There’s just something about the idea of a guy with wings.
Believe me, I know. My DH is a private pilot. About 10 years ago, I gave him a trial flight lesson as a gift for Father’s Day and the flying bug bit him hard. He started ground school and I spent my Saturday mornings on the deck of the FBO in Heber, Utah, binoculars in hand, watching him do “touch-and-goes” with his instructor. Before the end of the summer, he was the proud owner of a pilot’s license and a Cessna 182.
Then, he had to convince me to get in the plane with him. I’ve trusted this guy for a long time, but I’ve also always been a “white-knuckle” flyer. And a little prone to motion sickness. He had his work cut out for him, but I was game to try.
We took off as the sun was just beginning to peep over the tips of the Wasatch Mountains. Taking off in a small plane is different than flying in a big jet. There’s such a sense of exhilaration when the ground drops away beneath you and you hurtle skyward. We climbed out and then turned west to fly over the Great Salt Lake. The air was smooth as glass. Honestly, I felt like I was sitting in my living room, but with a “God’s–eye” view of the world.
My DH was very smart about my first flight with him. He took shallow turns. He showed me how the airfoil works and convinced me that we weren’t likely to drop like a stone. The plane wanted to fly. And I have to confess, he was totally hot with his aviator sunglasses and David Cook headphones. I was hooked.
We flew all over the American West together, soaring through mountain passes and scud-running just under the clouds when the ceiling dropped unexpectedly. Our longest trip was from Seattle, WA to Kansas City, MO, but we made lots of shorter hops and day trips. We flew around Mt. St. Helens and circled on one wingtip to whale watch over Puget Sound. We saw things very few people ever see—like the little heart-shaped lake high in the Cascades with no roads leading in or out. Or the ancient lava flows in the Idaho basin.
My DH knows how to show a girl a good time. Having wings works! Which is why I’m seriously excited about Cynthia’s Angel of Darkness. Thanks for having me here today!

No one was more surprised that me when my DH learned to fly. How has your significant other surprised you?

Mia, thanks so much for participating in the party! And both of these books look incredible.
Thanks for having me, Cynthia! This is a terrific idea!
My husband surprised me by always being by my side and how loving he can be.

It’s hard to overestimate the importance of everyday love.
I can’t name any one specific time but I can say that he never fails to continue to surprise me! My hubby loves to make me happy so he is always doing little things that cause me to smile! I gotta say that if my husband wanted to take up flying however, for as much as I trust the man with my very life, I would NOT get into a puddle jumper with him, even if you offered me a million dollars. Its not that I don’t trust him, I just absolutely ABHOR heights! Thanks for making me homesick too LOL! I grew up out in Dugway so I know Utah quite well!
I don’t miss the 12 mortal feet of snow we had in Park City, but I do miss the mountains.
My hubby has surprised me a few times by picking up a book and reading in bed beside me, while I, too, read a book. That has always been something I’ve wanted–a partner who would just sit next to me and read (doesn’t have to necessarily be in bed; it could be on the couch or wherever).

My DH is a reader too, but he’s into techno-thrillers.
My husband always surprises me. He took to having children with an excitement I wasn’t sure I felt (morning sickness. He learned everything he could and gladly put his families needs before his. I can honestly say I know he wont want to learn to fly he is too afraid of hights.
He sounds like a terrific dad!
My husband would love to learn how to fly, but I don’t think he will ever do it. He surprises me sometimes by bringing home flowers for me for no reason whatsoever.
Oh, that’s so sweet. Flowers for no reason are better than a whole dozen on Valentines because he feels pressured to do it.
I guess the way my husband suprised me was on what a great help he was in the delivery room when I had my kids. He did what the nurses told him to and did’nt bother me a bit. The perfect coach. You are very brave I will never fly.—Rachel
I think–and this was a very silly thing for me to think–that I believed nothing bad would happen to him if I was there too. Or at least, if it did, we’d be together.
I have no significant other actually. Never did have a boyfriend before..:/ Haha, but it’s nice to speculate!
I invite you to fall in love with all my heroes. They will never do you wrong!
During the Vietnam war, my husband was a crew member on a B-52. We spent most of our first 3 years of marriage apart. Back then, not cell phones or internet to keep in touch. Many of our friends were running up $700 to $900 a month phone bills. We held back not wanting to start our marriage so deeply in debt. When they started bombing Hanoi in Dec. 1972, B-52’s were being shot down. After each flight, he would call me for a quick “It wasn’t us. I love you.” That meant more to me than anything else he could have done.
6 little words, but I know they meant the world to you. Thanks for sharing, Pat.
On spring break, my dh [who was a middle school principal] got his ear pierced!
I guarantee if anything got pierced on my DH it would by accident!
My husband surprises me by leaving me love notes in my purse.
Oh, Crystal, that’s so sweet!
Hubby took me to Egypt for 2 weeks this was several years ago but I still remember it
What a fascinating place to visit, but with the turmoil it’s in now, I’m afraid I’d pass. I’m brave about some things, but an absolute coward about others.
My husband surprised me with a diamond tennis bracelet a few years ago .
Blessed is the man who knows jewelry always fits! You may quote me.
My husband suprises me every day with his patience with me. lol
I bet he considers himself blessed.
I don’t have a significant other so no surprises for me 🙂
Great covers.
My daughters are both single, but I tell them it’s better to be alone than with the wrong person. Bet you have other surprises in your life. Thanks for dropping by.
Hmm… Many surprises, both good and bad have come from the hubby. The most recent and positive one was when I’d excitedly told him about a request for a partial ms from an editor at the RWA national conference. I came home to find he’d gone out to purchase all the extra computer equipment needed to comfortably polish my work. 🙂
Congrats on your request for a partial! And major congrats on having such a supportive hubby.
Thanks for sharing about your DH Mia, sounds like you get to see some pretty cool things 🙂
My sweetie surprises me when he remembers certain things I like without me saying anything. For instance today we went to lunch and he brought me my favorite cookie. My surprise was that he knew which one, white chocolate macadamian nut 🙂
A man who pays attention is priceless.
There are few times when hubby surprises me. Mostly it is when he offers to take the boys out to give me a couple hours alone. Though he did surprise me this morning. He gets home around six in the morning, and he LOVES to drink all the Dr. Pepper. I need that caffine to fortify me to get me up and going. Usually I wake up and see no Dr. Pepper in the fridge. Today, not only did I see a swallow left in the 2 liter but a full 2 liter.
Yay for a reliable caffeine delivery system! My personal vice is Cherry Coke Zero–the only substance I abuse.
He surprised me one year by taking me to Mackinac Island– I’ve lived in Michigan my entire life and had never been there. It was our 20th anniversary, and it was very romantic. We’d always been happy, but with three kids, a lot of bills and stress, we’d sort of gotten into a rut. This one weekend alone really helped us as a couple and made everything seem fresh and new:)
I’ve heard that’s a lovely place.
My husband surprised me by taking me to Canada when we were 19 and proposing. Lets just say that he is not a romantic guy and they way he took me hiking up a cliff to over look the water and forests was amazing.
Sounds like he put a lot of thought into where he wanted to make his proposal. Very sweet.
I have no significant other. I’m still looking.
Good luck in the search. Remember you deserve someone amazing.
Mine surprised me the other day when he told me that he has loved every single minute of being married to me. As you all know marriage is difficult and we like most couples have had big arguments. During some of these I would swear he hated my guts. So yes, he surprised me – pleasantly :).
In one of my books, my hero says, “I know you. And I won’t turn away.” This is the kind of love we all long for–someone who knows the deepest wrinkles in our souls but loves us anyway.
My husband surprised me all the many years ago when we had our daughter and he was always happy to change a diaper or give her a bath.
Isn’t that wonderful? I always say there’s nothing more masculine than caring for those who are weak.
My honey surprised me when he willing moved in with one of my friends and her 4 kids so that we could be together 🙂 He was even the live in babysitter, cook and maid for my friends. That just shows how much he loves me to put up with all that! (He has since got his own place and I moved back in with my mom because she needs me, but we still get to spend time together 🙂 )
My hubby surprises me when he out of the blue does something that makes me smile. Like sitting on the couch and rubbing my shoulders when I am trying to get a chapter written. Love him!
Your book sounds amazing! 🙂 Hmm… not sure… sometimes he really made me smile….
My special someone has not appeared in my life yet… so no surprises…
My Hubby is wonderful! He looks after our boys while I’m reading my books! lol I usually read when the boys are sleeping, but when I’m getting to the end of a book, he always jumps in and takes care of both our boys and has them leave me alone for a little bit! =D

Haven’t found that significant other yet – finding him would probably be the biggest surprise!
my bf went into town a few months ago.. and came home bringing me a giant bag full of clay (decorative kind to make pretty things with).. i almost cried.. he stopped while he was working to go to Michaels and pick out some clay for me..
My man surprised me when he went shopping for clothes for my birthday and actually knew what size to buy!
My DH has surprised me by being the rock he is. I have had some medical issues and he has been there very active in my treatment plans. He didn’t freak out like I did when I was diagnosed. He has always been there for me but his strength during this has been just amazing to me.
I don’t have a significant other, but a former one surprised me by quitting his old job of many years, going back to school and starting a whole new career in the medical field. I would have never thought he would do something like that.
Hi Mia! My husband of 22 years is always surprising me, and I never see it coming. My favorite was when we were on a trip with his MBA class to Hong Kong in 2009. On one of our nights out we were overlooking Hong Kong Harbour. He got down one one knee, asking me to spend the rest of my life with him(again) and presented me with a new wedding band set. Of course I said yes!! Thank you for the offer!
I can’t answer this one as I don’t have a significant other.
Hi Mia,I feel so blessed with my DH. He really is my rock and when I push on him, for whatever reason, he stands strong. I really shouldn’t be surprised by this, but I can be a bit dramatic at times so every time he is at my side, I am surprised. My dad was really sick last summer and my parents basically moved in with us. He was at my side, not only as a listening ear with my concerns about my dad but supportive with dealing with the added stress of the extra guests in our house.
My husband surprised me almost 29 yrs. ago when he changed our daughters diaper for the first time. It was just something I thought he would bulk at doing but he was great and was such a hands on dad with both of our girls.
Currently single.
I’m currently single too.

What a lovely tale of a great gift–and a great gift recipient! *sigh*
A couple of year ago my then s.o. surprised me with a trip to DC and a registration for RWA there. Best three weeks ever! Not only did I spend time at as many museums as I could fit in, but my guy even attended a couple of RWA functions. Amazing gift.
my hubby surprise me by letting me sleep in and getting up with the kids and cleaned the house the last time he was home . It was very sweet

This is going to sound really sappy but my BF always seems to know when there’s something wrong with me. Like if I’ve had a bad day or someone’s really worked my nerves. We don’t live together but he always senses when he needs to call me and ask me what’s wrong.
By showing me that even when he is facing so tough stuff he always still makes time for me and to show me how much he loves me. He is the most amazing man I have ever met and I love him more every single day. 🙂
and that should say when he is facing some tough stuff LOL
I don’t have a significant other, so no surprises for me
My husband surprised me when he turned out to be such a great dad 🙂
No SO to surprise me.
My husband is a chef and a great cook. He can make something out of nothing. My favorite is when he makes alfredo sauce from scratch. It amazes me.
Mia is a new author for me and would love to win and read this book. Thanks for the chance to win.
After 3 kids I tend to be really worried about my looks and know I will never have the body I did at 18 when we first fell in love. I have moments when I cover up and get embarrassed and my husband always surprises me by saying when he looks at me he doesn’t notice any of that and I’m the same girl he fell in love with 11 years ago. Melts my heart 🙂
Really???
Yay!!! Thank you, Ms Marlowe and Ms Eden!
