Kris Kennedy has a fabulous new book available–it’s called DEFIANT. Here’s the cover:
And here’s the most excellent blurb:
A rogue knight and an enchanting renegade join forces to right old wrongs in award-winning author Kris Kennedy’s sizzling new medieval romance.
A warrior with questionable intentions . . .
Jamie Lost is the king’s most renowned commander, a fearless lieutenant ordered to kidnap an exiled priest before rebel forces close in. The mission is simple—until he meets a mysterious thief who will steal his quarry and then his heart.
A lady of remarkable courage . . .
Beautiful Eva is also seeking Father Peter, but she intends to protect him from a secret that could cost him his life. She senses that she, too, should fear Jamie—not just for his wickedly sharp sword and dangerously muscular body, but for the powerful longing he ignites within her.
A secret that could overthrow the king.
When a band of mercenaries abducts the priest, Jamie and Eva must form a volatile alliance. As civil war unfolds around them, they embark on an epic journey that betrays the truth about their hidden identities, their unexpected loyalties, and the simmering attraction that could seal their fates forever.

I just read the excerpt and love it! Great characters, great writing. I hope my name is picked. 🙂
I like to read all sorts of romances but I guess it’s the fact that society back then was so different from ours-yes I know romances aren’t necessarily sticklers for accuracy and nor am I lol but making a romance work back then was so much more…romantic 🙂

I’m usually a scifi girl, but once in a while, I like to be taken back in time. History can be very romantic 🙂
I LOVE historicals. With such a busy lifestyle, every modern gadget known to man helping me, well, do everything, and the instant in-you-face-information age, I sometimes crave an escape to a different time. A world where things are a little slower, people are more connected, gallantry and romance abound, but there’s still danger and excitement. Viola…welcome to the world of historical romance.
The blurb for Defiant has everything I look for in a historical. I sooo look forward to reading Defiant!
Historicals take you back to a time where honor meant everything. Historicals take you to an era of romance and the scenery is just awesome!
I read them for the heroes and the magic. For the defiant heroines and evil step parents. Castle and carriages. For the simple pleasures that life brings without the clutter of technology.
I mostly read paranormals but I started with historical romance. I love the feel of going back in time. Most of the reads don’t focus in on the lack of modern facilities (I am spoiled rotten and will not give up my toilet with running water ;)) but the women are never really weak either. I guess that’s what keeps me reading them. If the females were always dominated with no strength I wouldn’t be able to get into the books.
I love historicals because… Oh, wait, I guess I don’t need to win this one. 😉
So happy to see people talking about why they love historicals! I think Cynthia is fantabulous, and I hope whoever wins DEFIANT loves it. (I shall give the Eden ladies a hint: the heroine speaks with a French accent–that’s the syntax some people are finding confusing.)
Thanks for telling people about the story, Cynthia!!
I’m mostly read paranormal romance and thriller suspense, but last year I start reading Historical Romance. The first Historical that I read is Lisa Kleypas’s Wallflower series and I love it. Even this genre not my favorite, I enjoy it so far, because the romance and some historical info too
Love historicals because of the different journeys I’m taken to when I read these stories. Especially love the Scottish historicals 🙂
I like romances in general because you get to fall in love over and over again. Historical and ever paranormals are a step into something you can never really experience on your own so it makes for a great way to escape because it is something new and different from what life really is.
I read historicals because it gives me a glimpse of how things used to be. Also there is just something naughty about a lady going against all the rules to be “alone” with a man. It is thrilling to me 🙂
I always loved the adventure and escape of Historicals and the sweet sense of magic found in the romance. As a child I found it in childhood fairy tales. As an adult, I still find it in the happy ever afters of Historical Romances.
I love LOVE historicals. They are what started me reading “adult” romances. I’ve always been attracted to the Past and history. I love that you can get a feeling for life back then and many authors give you a true feeling of being “there”. They are fascinating and offer something contemps just can’t seem to offer. Exactly what that is can be hard to “write” but it’s this feeling, this idea that the people from the past aren’t all that different from us……….and of course the HEAs.

I love Historicals. They were actually the ones that got me into reading in the first place. Over the years I experimented with other genres and I do come back to historicals
I love the time period I also love the interaction between the characthers.

Both my Bachelor’s degree and my minor were in the field of History. I adore the subject. I think that is why I love historical romance. I like to imagine what it would be like to live during different time periods.
I don’t know if i can really pick something that draws me to historicals, I just can’t seem to get enough of them. Maybe it has something to do with the men seem to go to no bounds for the one they love, verses today. Back then so many seem to really know what the true meaning of love, and family is. Today so many are easy and quick to give up on love. Does that make sense?!? LOL

great giveaway. 🙂 Why I like historicals is that you can be transported back in time without leaving all the lovely conveniences that we have today. LOL. I love to read what life was like without having to go through a lot of what people had to deal with back then.
The first historical i read was a Julie Garwood. I had the book for a while but was sure i wouldn’t like it. On a whim i picked it up and started reading just to see. lol Yeah well i was hooked right in and read all her historicals in short order. I love the hot alpha men aren’t they all 6 ft 3 and ruggedly handsome etc? lol The strong women who can take care of themselves but still need alpha guy sometimes? I like being transported to another time too. Good stuff. LOVE this cover. I mean look at it? wow.

I read historical novels because they make history more enjoyable and transport you into the past. I am reading Deadly Heat and find it great! Thanks Cynthia! I’m hooked on your series.
Historicals are what got me hooked on reading romance… I did not like to read until I got my hands on Catherine Coulter’s historicals… from there my love of books blossomed! Nice Cover! 😉
I’ve always enjoyed historical romances. I read my first one in 6th grade and have been reading them since. They give you a taste of the period that you may not get otherwise, whether completely accurate or not.
I love to read historical romances because they take
me away from both the every day cares of my life and
from the more serious heart-wrenching occasions. (We
lost our youngest sister to a long-time illness this
past week.) For the length of time that I am reading
my book, I’m in a totally entrancing world where I’m
a part of the story with no cares or worries.

I love reading about the different time periods. I also like seeing a glimpse of a time and world that is so different from today. A lot of the rules of society are different from today and I love seeing how the characters conform and rebel against the rules of society.

I’ve been reading historical romances for 30 years, since I was 15. Johanna Lindsey was my first favorite but now I like them ALL. There’s just something HE MAN about the heroes that makes my heart pound. Nice cover and I can’t wait to read more.
I like to read Historical Romance for the, well, romance! I mean, it wasn’t as easy as telling someone you liked them back then. You couldn’t even hold hands, really, unless you were dancing. I think it makes it all the more romantic when the couple finally does touch…. That scene in 2005 Pride and Prejudice keeps flashing through my mind of Mr. Darcy suddenly helping Elizabeth into her ride…. Yeah, actions, even small one’s, meant a lot more 🙂
My first historical was found in a second hand bookstore; I couldn’t afford much at the time and the sales clerk told me I would love this book. The author,Julie Garwood. And I fell in love with historical books.
The men in kilts! No seriously…I love how devoted and passionate Higlanders are to their woman and families! I think it is in their blood! Makes for some fantastic reads!
I love history and going back to things and times of the past. I love to read historicals for that reason. This book sounds awesome. 🙂
Hi Cynthia!!! I sooo want this book! It sounds so great!!!
hugs,
WendyK
Historical romance is my favorite genre. I love being transported to another time and place that’s completely different from what I know.
Congrats to Kris on the new release. I guess I like reading historicals to see how people of different and the same class interacted with each other and what their customs were.
I love historicals because it gives me a feel of passions that may have happened in the past. These authors delve into research and not only do I get a great intense love story but I feel that sometimes I learn something as well. It’s like being in a time machine and being wisked to the past, I love it
I love historicals because it is like delving into an entirely different world. Somehow the lives of people back then always seems so much more adventurous.
Thanks so much for all the great comments! I loved reading about why different people were drawn to historicals. I am about to pug in all the info to get a random winner–I’ll post the winner’s name at the top of the blog.
Thank you, again, and have a great day!
thank you!!!! Thank you!!!!
