Romantic Suspense–Take Me To The Movies Back to Blog
Update: The AMC Theatres gift certificate winner is Shelly Estes! Congrats, Shelly!
So yesterday I asked folks to tell me their favorite romantic suspense novels (and thank you for the fabulous responses!). Today, I’m wondering…what’s your favorite romantic suspense movie? (One commenter will win a $25 AMC Theaters gift card–you can go out and see another great romantic suspense!)
Body Heat with Kathleen Turner has always been one of my favorites, though it’s not, ahem, technically a romance (and if you’ve seen it, you know why!).
Another one that really appealed to me–though I’d call it more of a thriller romance–was The Saint.
I”m all about a dangerous man being reformed by the power of love.
Come on–spill! Tell me your favorite romantic suspense movies!

I have been told that my definition of romantic suspense is off, but right now, my favorite is “Bad Seed” starring Luke Wilson, Dennis Farina and Norman Reedus. And though the romance took place in the past, the guy we perceive at first as the villain is really the victim and he loved so damn much that he made me cry when he made his final decision … all three times I saw it. I balled like a baby and hid in my office!! But don’t tell anyone, okay? 🙂
Ok Im not sure how much of a suspense this actually is…but one of my favorites is “Romancing The Stone”….Its got a little suspense in it right?? LOL. I love love love that movie.
OO and Speed…Keanu is hot!!
I have a few — “Leave Her to Heaven” with Gene Tierney, “Without a Doubt” with Joseph Cotton. Probably one of the best is “Double Indemnity” with Barbars Stanwyk. Not sure any baddies were reformed, but the suspense was excellent!
The Big Easy is my favorite. Talk about a steamy love story.
I don’t have any favorite. I like many but the only one I’ve watched more than once is this Jennifer Lopez/George Clooney one that I can’t remember the title to. I think I’m becoming brain dead as I get older ;).
One of my favorites is “The Thomas Crown Affair.” I also like “Laura” which is a classic.
Ooo good question… Hmm… I’ve seen so many movies, but for some reason (and I don’t know if it has a lot of romance in it) the only movie popping in my head is Enough with Jennifer Lopez. I love that movie. She falls for guy, guy is amazing, then turns crazy! She is the victim then turns around and decides she will fight back. Love it!
Ooo wait, another one is Joy Ride with Paul Walker and LeeLee Sobieski (I know I spelled that wrong) where he picks his girlfriend up from school and they are happy to be together only to find joy riding very dangerous haha. SUCH A GOOD MOVIE! Plus we get to see Paul Walker Naked from behind! Yum! hahah
One of my favorites is Mr. and Mrs. Smith. While I am NOT gaga over Brad Pitt, I still loved the movie and thought it was a great balance of humor, romance and suspense!
Agreed about “Body Heat” AND the comment about “The Big Easy” but my favorite (and Ellen Barkin is in it, too) is “Sea of Love” with Al Pacino- WHAT a sex scene in his apartment! WOW- I’m getting hot and bothered just thinking about it.
I have so many that I’ve really enjoyed. Here is a few.
Obsessed starring Beyonce Knowles, Idris Elba and Ali Larter.
Wanted starring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy.
The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Identity starring Matt Damon.
Hard to Kill starring Steven Segal and Kelly LeBrock.
My favorite romantic suspense is The Bourne Identity.
I think one of my favorites, with some interesting twists, is A Perfect Murder with Michael Douglas, Gweneth Paltrow and Viggo Mortensen. You weren’t quite sure who did what to who in it.
This might be a weird answer, but Hitman. It was a different kind of love story IMO. Both characters were broken but so likable. I loved the suspense, action and definitely the end. By the end it was obvious he loved her and it showed by his actions.
I’m not sure if this qualifies as a romantic suspense, but I love “The Mummy” with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. I watch it ever time it comes on TV and own a copy. Just can’t get enough of it.
One of my favorites is The Post Man Always Rings Twice with John Garfield and Lana Turner.

I do not watch many movies any more. I just don’t seem to have the time. I did see The Big Easy and loved it. I am from south Louisiana so I made a point to watch this movie.
I tend to watch movies (TV) and read during commercials if it something I want to watch. The one movie I can recall I actually watched the whole thing was A Perfect Murder.
Hitchcock’s romantic thriller, “To Catch a Thief” is wonderful…Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in Monaco (which became a VERY romantic location for her.) I love it.
First movie that comes to mind for me is A PERFECT MURDER. First time I saw that movie I didn’t know what was going to happen.
Many Hitchcock films would fall under this as well as many film noir. Does “Casablanca” count? Even though the hero walks off with another guy instead of the girl? I’ll think up some others…
Wow – this is a tough one. I can’t think of any current rom-suspense movies worth mentioning. I would agree with many of the other comments here and go old school. Nothing beats a good Alfred Hitchcock movie: Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, North by Northwest…hmmm the list can go on and on.
It’s not really romantic, but The Skeleton Key was a very, very good movie! So creepy too!
Robin Hood The Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio or Marnie with Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren. I adored both of these movies.
Shooter. Hands down. It’s not really, truely romantic but Mark Walhberg is so sexy just looking at him counts as romantic xDD
The Bourne movies. I don’t really watch these kinds of movies.
wow…I love the bourne movies too…one of my favorite movies is Emma though its not considered suspense! LOL I can’t think of one off the top of my head!
the big easy was hot hot
against all odds whoo sexy
head over heels with freddie prinze
james bonds movie
Undercover Blues with Dennis Quaid Kathleen Turner and Stanley Tucci. So over the top it was horrible, but so horrible it was excellent. It had it all spies, babies, double agents, C4, and Stanley Tucci screaming like a girl. God I really need to find a copy of this movie.
The Thomas Crown Affair with Pierce Brosnan.
To Catch a Thief with Cary Grand and Grace Kelly was great too.
The Birds – Alfred Hitchcock
The Count Of Monte Christo with jim Caveizel
Such tough choices to make. When it comes to the classics, TO CATCH A THIEF is up there. On a more modern note, Daniel Craig rang my bell in the new CASINO ROYALE.
I think its an old school one for me.. Alfred Hitchcock “Marnie” (I love Sean Connery.)
I LOVE The Saint, I used to drive my hubby crazy watching it so much. I also love The Mummy (1 and 2) and Grosse Point Blank (not really a suspense, but not sure how to classify it).
Some of my favorites – North By Northwest, Thomas Crown Affair, To Catch a Thief.
I really liked Mr & Mrs Smith also, good couple.
I enjoyed the Thomas Crown Affair…
You know, some of my all time fav romantic suspense movies are the Alfred Hitchcock movies. North By Northwest, The Birds, To Catch a Thief, totaly fantastic movies. I also consider the Bond movies to be romantic suspense. Hope I’m not too late on this one.
I truly loved this brilliant article. Please continue this awesome work. Regards, Duyq.
