It’s Me Back to Blog

Time for a “Writer Wednesday” Talk: And It’s About AI…

I have a goal of trying to do a “Writer Wednesday” post each week. Will I always achieve this goal? Heck, no, but I’m trying! And this week, I want to talk to you about AI. To be very frank, I hate AI in the writing world. I hate that authors had their work stolen so that machines would be trained with our stories. I hate that there are tons of lawsuits happening right now as writers have to fight for their rights, and I hate that readers are being mislead by certain individuals–people who just straight up use AI to generate stories and then release them to the public.

So, let me just promise this–when you read a book from me, a real human wrote it. Love it or hate it, the story is mine. My characters, my humor, my twisted mind–it’s all me. Any errors that you find in the novel? Those are mine, too. And, yes, alas, I can proof a book ten times–and my lovely editor will proof it, too, and then the novel will release…and somehow, a very persistent typo will find a way to survive. 🤣

But, seriously, I just want you to know that the books I release are from my heart. I have been writing fulltime for over twenty years. I write pretty much every single day, and I have a goal of usually writing at least 4k a day. That’s just my schedule, and it’s what works for me. If I am not writing a book, I feel lost. Books have always been my comfort and my connection. They give me purpose, and they make me happy. I feel incredibly grateful and blessed to be able to spend my days creating stories. (Thank you very, very much for reading my books. I truly appreciate you more than I can say!)

Some people on Threads and other social media are currently suggesting that if a book has em dashes or if there is an ellipsis, then those are signs the story is AI. Oh, no. Not the case. The em dash and the ellipsis and the F word have been three of my very best friends since my first book came out way back in 2005, and if you’ve read me over the years, then you know how much I enjoy those things. 😉 The reason you will see em dashes and the ellipsis in AI books is because the AI systems were trained on the stolen work of real authors. Authors like me. Because, yes, my work was used without my permission to train AI. A great deal of my work, and it saddens me each day.

So, very long post but…it’s me. If I am releasing a book, then I want you to feel one hundred percent comfortable knowing that an actual human wrote the story. That is a promise I am making to you. My books, my words, my heart. And I hope that you will enjoy the stories. I hope that very much.
