Least favorite paranormal creature? Back to Blog

For me, well, there isn’t any contest–my least favorite para creature has to be the zombie. Oh, jeez, but I hate zombies. Maybe it’s because they are depicted as being so dim-witted (or just, um, no-witted). Maybe it’s the fact that, in general, their flesh falls off their bodies as they lurch after their prey (prey that can never run fast enough). Or maybe it’s just because they eat brains. Not sexy.

Now, sure, I saw Shaun of the Dead a few years ago, and I (pretty much) enjoyed the movie. But I do not WILLINGLY make a habit of watching zombie flicks.

Now, my husband, he’s a different story. The man loves zombies. Zombie video games. Zombie movies. Zombie books. If there’s a zombie involved, he is a happy man. He even has a not-so-secret (especially now that I’m posting it on my blog) desire to make his own zombie film: Zombies from the Deep. Here’s a plot breakdown: Scuba divers find zombies in the deep–wake ’em up–zombies then storm beaches and terrorize beach goers.

Ahem. Not necessarily the movie for me, but hey–different strokes for different folks, right?

So, tell me…just what is your least favorite paranormal creature–and why?

For me it’s vampires. Used to be shifters, but I’ve changed my mind after reading Patricia Briggs and Nalini Singh. Vampires are just tired and it’s hard to write something fresh about them.

Yeah, yeah, emo-angst, you drink blood and you’re tormented about it. Blah blah blah, second verse, same as the first.

PS – Tell your husband that the urban fantasy / paranormal mystery series Laura will be shopping for me soon totally has zombies in it. 😀

Hey, Cynthia, I agree zombies are bad. And vampires.. blood makes me nauseous. LOL. Now I know why I write WF. Your blog brings up memories, though, of scaring myself silly watching those movies. But doesn’t everyone love a good scary movie/book now and then?

🙂 Ann, I’ll definitely pass the word on to Nick!

And ladies, I’m gonna have to confess–the vamp is my second favorite paranormal creature. (The werewolf holds my heart at number one.) Perhaps I’ll be able to change your mind about the blood-drinkers–I’ll have a vamp novel from Kensington out in late 08–the heroine is the undead one in that book.

And LaDonna–I completely agree with you about folks enjoying good scary movies/books–I know I love to watch ’em as often as I can!

Cynthia, I’m reading the latest Harry Potter, so I’ll say my least favorite is Death Eaters. Doesn’t just the name make you go “Yech”?

  5. Cynthia Eden says:

Edie, I’m definitely with you on the Death Eaters!

Probably zombies – mainly because a sumbitch zombie keeps intruding in my WIP, which is supposed to be about Ghosts.
