“So, what are you telling me?” A nervous laugh bubbled from her.  She hated nervous laughter, but it always emerged for her. The sound seemed to linger in the air. “That you’re some sort of—of bad guy bodyguard? Is that even a thing?” It couldn’t be a thing.

“I don’t know.” His head tilted as he studied her. “Are you telling me that you’re some sort of long-lost princess who has been hiding out in Baton Rouge her whole life? Is that a thing?”
