Feedback needed Back to Blog
Okay, so I’ve been thinking about doing some giveaways here on the old blog, but I’m not sure how people will really feel about what I want to giveaway. Hmmm…let me explain.
Once upon a time, I was a serious old romance hunter. I collected all of the early Jayne Castle, Anne Stuart, Diana Palmer books. (And by early, I mean when when Jayne Castle had her Guinevere Jones series; I mean the old Candlelight Ecstasy stories, the Encore romances that can’t be found–well, you get the idea.) I’ve kept these books on my shelves for years, but now I think it’s time to let someone else have them.
If I did weekly giveaways with these “Oldies but goodies” (sorry, couldn’t think of a better name!), would you be interested in that? I’ve got very old school Nora Roberts, Linda Howard, Elizabeth Lowell and Heather Graham, too. All of these books are very hard to find, but some aren’t in the best of condition because–yeah, some of them are more than twenty-five years old.
If this is a crazy idea, please let me know. I only want to do the giveaways if I think folks might be interested. So your feedback is very much appreciated!

OMG – Sounds faboulous. Old School Nora Roberts, Linda Howard, Elizabeth Lowell, Diana Palmer are the books I grew up and fell in love with the world of romance books on. I think it would be an awesome idea:)
I know there are some early books I use to have but have disappeared. To have a chance at maybe winning some of those – wow! I think it’s a great idea.
It’s a great idea, except I have most of them too, or else I’ve read them and given them away. But I’m sure a lot of other people haven’t read all of them.
I have a couple Elizabeth Lowell sci fi books written as Ann Maxwell. I like her sci fi better and was sorry when she stopped writing them.
I have old school Nora’s and Jayne’s as well, but not all. *G* Your idea sounds generous and lovely! And Edie, how did I not know Elizabeth Lowell wrote Sci-Fi? ACK! Off to look……. *G*
As someone who can’t turn down books – no matter their condition – to save her life, I think this is a great idea. Old Noras? I’m all over that 🙂
I think it’s a good idea, too, Cynthia. Once readers first discovers an author they like a lot, we tend to glom their older titles. If I’m looking for an older, hard to find book, I don’t care if it’s worn as long as I can read the whole story. I have several older Anne Stuart’s in my TBR mountain now. Jayne Krentz I always enjoy and have a lot of her older books, but not all. I’ve read Miller’s vamp series and a few others.
I have several of Nora’s; a friend of mine is a huge Nora fan and has been searching forever for her first book, Promise Me Tomorrow, the only one she doesn’t have, she’d pay to get her hands on it, lol.
I agree! LOL, I’m the friend Pam is talking about. I’ve been after Nora’s Promise Me Tomorrow for years – the only book in her entire backlist I don’t have. But it’s a great idea all around for true romance lovers to have a piece of history, so to speak, of their favorite authors. And I never say to books no matter what, so I’d definitely be here for your contest, Cynthia!
I agree with everyone else – tis a great idea 😀
And PMT (!) by La Nora – she bought the rights to the book, she considers it THAT BAD and won’t let it be re-published, so it is worth mucho money if you have a copy 😉
I think it’s a wonderful idea! I became a romance reader in my 20s and I know there are tons of older books I’ve never read. I have started picking up a few here and there, but I think most anyone would love a chance to win older/hard to find books 🙂
Well, it would be incredibly generous! I mean, as you say, some of those titles are probably very rare and hard to find.
If you are sure you would not rather auction them or something, I would certainly show up for a chance to get them.
Thank you for the feedback, ladies! You’ve convinced me–let’s do this! 🙂 I’ll try to do at least 1 giveaway a week (hopefully 2; maybe I’ll get crazy and try more). I’ll organize the books tonight and try to find the ones that I think people might be most interested in getting/reading.
Azteclady, I thought about putting them up at auction at one time. I even took some pictures to do that, but then I never got around to it! Winners can feel free to auction the books (or do whatever you want with ’em, they’ll be yours! Go wild! Party!).
Again, thanks for all the input.
I think it would be a great idea. Thanks, Cynthia.
That would be amazingly generous, Cynthia! Those older books are often quite sought after!
Terrific idea, Cyn. Personally speaking, I probably wouldn’t have time to read ’em, but there are plenty of people out there who’d love to have them as part of their collection.
I agree with everyone that it’s a really great idea, not to mention really sweet of you! A lot of the old Nora Robert’s and Linda Howard’s were books I grew up on, but don’t own because I usually got them from the library. Not to mention that a lot of those are very difficult to find!
That would be great, but check which books you are giving away. Some of those are worth a lot of money (Guinevere Jones books were going for $250 at one time).
