Movie Deal for Nora

Posted in Romance on February 23rd, 2006 by Cynthia Eden

Nora Roberts is, without a doubt, one of the best romance writers in the industry. And now, she’s just signed a deal to turn four of her books into movies. Wow.

Sometimes I worry when I hear that romance books are going to be adapted for the screen. A few years ago, Julie Garwood’s For the Roses aired on CBS–and the story was very, very different on TV. That’s what I don’t like–the changes. And in Garwood’s case, I really thought the changes weakened the story. It was a real shame–For the Roses is a great book, but whoever wrote the script for the TV movie just screwed up royally.

But back to Nora. Brazen Virtue is one of the books slated for moviedom. Hopefully, the plot will stay the same. Hopefully. But even if it changes, even if the characters are unrecognizable, it’s still awesome that she’s got this deal. Nora, you are my hero.

Now when will her witch trilogy be on the screen, hmmm?

Jello and Hard Lemonade

Posted in Romance on February 22nd, 2006 by Cynthia Eden

Okay…I was making dinner tonight…slaving away over my semi-hot stove, and I realized I needed a treat. Of course, a quick raid of my pantry showed no chocolate, no cake. A glance in my freezer revealed no ice cream, not even any yogurt.

Dang. I’d forgotten that I hadn’t bought any good food in two months–since I’d been on my post-pregnancy diet.

But, tonight, well, tonight I thought screw the diet.

And I got creative. I found a box of Jello, and I discovered that my hubby had stocked the fridge with Mike’s Hard Lemonade. A quick mix and viola–I had a treat. Or, rather I’ll have one in four hours when my brew hardens.

Come on time, pass…pass…

Cursed

Posted in Romance on February 22nd, 2006 by Cynthia Eden

All right…I think it’s time I talk about Cursed.

I saw Cursed last year. After watching the previews, I really wasn’t expecting much–that’s actually why I went to see the movie. I thought it would be bad, and I like bad movies. Not gory, oh-my-God-get-me-out-of-here bad. But vaguely amusing, kinda cheesey bad. Yep, that’s what I like.

So, anyway…I went to see Cursed, not expecting much. But–wow–I was seriously surprised. The flick was funny, clever, and a little more than slightly scary. And with a tagline like “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”…well, let’s just say I was hooked.

For those of you who’ve never seen a Cursed preview, here’s the basic plot info: A nice, young heroine and her brother get bit one night by a strange hairy beast. Shortly thereafter, they both begin to change. They get claws, have sudden intense strength, and their sex appeal kicks up several notches. What’s happening? Yep, you guessed it. They’ve been Cursed. And, unless they want to stay that way, they have to find and kill the creature that attacked them.

Cursed is a really cool, fun werewolf flick. And since I’m currently in my werewolf obsession, I want to see it again. Soon. Actually, I want to buy the DVD. Hmmm. Maybe a trip to Blockbuster is in order…

I’m waiting for…

Posted in Romance on February 21st, 2006 by Cynthia Eden

I’m currently counting down the days until the release of the next Christine Feehan Carpathian tale–Dark Demon. According to Amazon.com, it’ll be out on March 28, 2006. Hmmm. Just a little over a month to go. I can do that–I mean, it’s not like I don’t have plenty to keep me occupied–what with my sweet little baby, my writing, editing, housecleaning, and my fanatic movie watching. So, sure, I can make it until March 28th. Really.

All right…I’ll probably start haunting the book store around March 25. Hey, what can I say? Sometimes the people at my local Books-a-Million screw up and put the books out too early. Their mistake, my joy.

Christine Feehan is on my auto buy list. Anytime one of her books comes out, I buy it instantly. I don’t bother reading the book jacket. I don’t read any reviews. I just buy it. The woman is that good.

I love her Carpathians, and I also really adore her Seven Sisters (Drake Sisters) stories. The next Drake tale won’t be coming out until this summer, dang it. But I’ll sure be picking it up. Right now, I don’t know much about Dangerous Tides–it’s Libby’s tale, and after her…I’m really hoping that Hannah and Jonas’s story will be released. Christine Feehan has done a great job of setting up their relationship in the previous books, and now I can’t wait to find out how their story ends!

So, I guess I’ll go back to waiting…

Humor Me

Posted in Romance on February 19th, 2006 by Cynthia Eden

You know, every now and then, I really get in the mood for some fun. I don’t want serious drama. I don’t want some wrenching emotional roller coaster that will leave me feeling wiped out.

I just want a good time…or rather, I want a good, humorous book to read.

The problem is…sometimes it’s dang hard to find the perfect funny book. I mean, Oprah is out there with her bookclub…but those aren’t funny stories. Those would be the afore-mentioned tear-jerkers that I am trying to avoid.

So, in the interest of helping others out there who might be like me (searching for humor in a sometimes humor-less world!), I thought I might list a few of my favorite funny writers. These authors always make me grin, and sometimes they even make me laugh out loud. So, here they are:

MaryJanice Davidson
Jill Barnett (I’m referring to her old historicals, Bewitching and Dreaming–hey, they’re paranormals, and they’re incredibly funny!)
Erin McCarthy

Those ladies are my top three. Anybody want to add more?
