I love when Cynthia does her month-long blog parties! It’s so fun reading all the authors’ posts. I want to talk a bit about my new series from Nocturne, OF ANGELS AND DEMONS. I’ve always wanted to write angels, but could never really get into the whole ‘guardian’ or ‘goodness’ thing when it came to them. I know they can be fierce warriors, and that they are not always as good as we like to think they are.
Take the Fallen angels, for example. They Fell because they were enamored by mortal women, and well, they wanted to get it on with them. Not exactly an upstanding hero. So why make them heroes?
In my first book for the series, the Fallen ones are the bad guys. And it’s the demons who are the good guys. Kinda fun to reverse the standard roles and see what kind of trouble I could put them both into. Oh, and for some odd reason, vampires always seem to show up in my stories. Go figure. 🙂
The hero of ANGEL SLAYER, is Ashuriel the Black, Stealer of Souls, Master of Dethnyht. You can call him Ashur, because the title is a bit much. His only purpose walking earth is to slay the Fallen. But one thing about demons? They thrive on sin. They need it to survive. So while Ashur is doing his best to play the hero and slay the bad guy, he’s got some sinning to do just to stay alive. I hope you’ll enjoy this new twist of a hero as much as I did writing him.
What characters types or creatures have you seen classically written as villains that you’d like to see redeemed and offered more heroic roles?
I’ve got three copies of ANGEL SLAYER to give away to 3 commenters. So let’s chat heroic villains!

Hi Michele,
I’m a big fan of yours and there are still a few of your books I need to catch up on…hehe!!!
Your hero sounds fascinating!!! A hero who needs to sin? Wow!!! I really want to read this one.

Your book sounds really good. Going to be adding it to my to read list. I would pick the fallen angels. I would like to see more of them become heros.
I would love to read more about archdemons, hellhounds, or those that guard the villainous leaders that could be redeemed even though they have committed evil acts.
Looking forward to reading ‘Angel Slayer’ and thank you for the great hours of reading your books have given me in the past.
Ms Hauf gets the best covers, srsly! 😀
ooh, Michele, your new series looks great 🙂 Heroes who need to sin sound like a fab read… can’t wait to read.
As for characters who are classically written as villians… how about an assasin? I always liked Leon from The Professional… and the movie Assassins 🙂
Warlocks!
I love to see some one write a story that protrays them better then a crazy, evil guy of magic.
Michelle, what a great concept, can’t wait to see what evil your demon will have to get into to survive. LOL. congratulations on this one – it will do well

Hi, Michele! Thanks so much for guest posting! Angel Slayer looks absolutely fabulous!!
Hi Michele. Love the cover to Angel Slayer. 🙂
Sue, the next two books in the Of Angels and Demons series, the Fallen are the heros. In book #2, FALLEN, I pair the hero with a demon. :-O And in #3, ASHES OF ANGELS, I pair a Fallen with a Muse (mortal woman the Fallen seeks).
I do get the best covers, don’t I? That guy on this cover is just…nom. He doesn’t have fluffy wings like that, though, but I can overlook that small mistake. 🙂
Yes, I like assassins as heroes. Very intriguing!
Erika, did you see the movie WARLOCK oh, so many decades ago? Still love that movie, though the warlock was the traditional bad guy because isn’t that the definition of a witch gone wrong, a warlock?
Ilove her books I especiaaly loved her book Her Vampire
husband it was so sweet hoqw they both fel in love
I also want to know ifthere is ever going to be another book invoving Blu and Creed?
I love it. Fallen angels are so tragic.
Your book sounds really good. I thought the cover was awesome also!
I’m thinking it would be interesting to see those demon lords from hell that are always made the villains become heroes.
Oooh love the cover! 😀 Hmmm I think we need more characters with darkness to become heroes… let them have their time to shine!
Woohoo – a new book by Michelle Hauf. Now to get my local library to stock it so I can spread the word around my reading friends 😀
I wonder if Satan could be a hero? I’ve heard of devils being heroes, but not the Big Honcho in Hell. I love it when perceptions are turned upside-down.
Hmmm. the joker from Dark knight I think he is misunderstood and if his life would have been different he would of been a hero…
Love Michelle book moon kisses
Another book involving Blu and Creed? I’d love it! BUt at the moment, nothing is planned. I might have Creed pop into a story I’m working on now, but it wouldn’t be more than a scene. I’d love to revisit the couple though, so maybe in a short story like a Nocturne Bites.
Jeannette, your mention of demon lords from hell reminds me of Gena Showalter’s Lords of The Underworld series. So good!
Edie, I have a recurring Satan character, Himself. I know the guy has had a romance (in my mind) and alluded to it a bit in The Devil To Pay. I’m just not sure if the world is ready for Satan to be romantic yet. 🙂
I love reading about demons who are the hero!
Hi Michele! Love your books! As probably many others, I like to see the demons in the good guy roles. Demons were really labeled as the bad/evil guys until recently. Many authors are now picking up the demons as being the heros or romantic leads. I love it! Authors such as G. Showalter and J. Frank and of course Cynthia’s demon hot guy Niol, to name a few. Thanks for the contest!
Hi, Michele! Thanks for a great giveaway! Congratulations on your new series from Nocturne, OF ANGELS AND DEMONS!
Angel of Death. Soul Collector. Grim Reaper. Devil’s Right Hand Man–the one who comes to collect your firstborn as per that deal you made with Lucifer.
Also, there’s Gargoyles. Even Gargoyles get the blues! Let’s give ’em a little something to cheer them up : )
Love the cover. I would be so happy to help Ashur do some sinning.
I would like to see paid assassins get a break in a book! Also, any creature dealing with the Devil or Death.
Congrats on the new series. I’m another that would like to see an assassin be redeemed.
What a cool question. I’d like to see a baby hellhound that is nurtured and turns out good. I think that would be so cool. I’ve read so many books now that it’s hard to come up with a new evil that can be redeemed. I love demons who turn good, and I perhaps a drug lord enforcer type who sees the light through a good woman would be cool too.
I’m thinking zombies. Come on! I know some author out there can make a zombie sexy! 🙂
Virginia, I did a short story on a Soul Bringer for October’s Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance 2 (he also shows up in Angel SLayer).
Gargoyles would be fun, but I always imagine that gargoyle cartoon that was out about a decade or so ago. 🙂
Moon sanity, I think Jim Butcher has done the hellhound gone tame thing in his Dresden Files. I’m pretty sure the dog, Mouse, is, if not a hellhound, a dog with magical powers. Love that dog.
CHelsea, not sure if I’m ready to believe a sexy zombie, but it does look like zombies are rising lately, to use a pun. Seeing a lot more zombie books in the stores lately.
Up until Dexter, serial killers were only seen as villains. But with his code, the way he chooses his victims, he became heroic and is now one of the good guys. So more authors need to create characters like Dexter.
How about an angel as the bad guy?
I’ve read some of your books and enjoyed them!
I love it, demon hero but still gets to have fun sinning along along the way, lol.
I think everyone has mentioned most that I can think of. I also vote on the gargoyles!!! The reversed roles of this book makes it appealing!! Definitely a gotta read!!!
love the question. I am not really sure. A lot of what I can think of as villians have already made it as the heros. Like demons that are supposed to be bad but have been turned into the heros. Those are usually the really interesting ones. It is always fun to see what authors come up with. Keeps the reading very interesting. 🙂
I love it… a little role reversal. I’m reading a book now where the dragon shifter was evil in the last book, but he is redeemed with love in this one.
Sounds very interesting:) I’ve always been intrigued with angels and I’ve read every book I could find about them – sounds like your twist in the story could be a great experience
Most of the ones, that I can think of have already been done: assassins, demons, vampires, and werewolves. I think even zombies have been done, now.
Hey Michele! Really dig the cover. I use to have one of your books but * pouts* but it got lost in one of the moves.
Love the cover. I like the different angles on demons lately.
Hey Michele i love that cover and honestly only two villains i can think of that were redeemed a sgood guys were Angel and spike from buffy and angel i love storylines where heros were villians i just havent really read many but would love to
Great cover and question. Hmmm I’d like to see demons in in a more heroic role. It seems like as soon as you hear the word demon you know that has to be the bad guy but if there can be a lighter side to vampires, why not demons?
Oh, great cover and book! I’ll be sure to check it out – I love fallen angel/demon stories. 🙂
