In the news… Back to Blog
People often ask where I get my ideas for stories., and honestly, I get my ideas from pretty much anything and everything. And, sometimes, I even get them from the news (AKA Law & Order “Ripped from the Headlines” style).
Today, there were two interesting/weird stories in the paper–these stories gave me pause and got me to thinking about possible plot ideas/twists for future horror tales. (Cause, yeah, I still do plan to one day try a straight horror, or, even better, my sci-fi screenplay–hey, what can I say? I like diversity!)
Story 1: Alligator attacks. In the last week, there have been 3 fatalities in Florida due to alligator attacks. One woman was killed while snorkeling, one was killed while jogging (jogging!), and the third, well, they just found the person’s body parts.
A few years ago, there were a lot of shark attacks in this area–the media called it “Summer of the Shark” and “Shark Season.” Now I wonder, is this Alligator Season?
Story 2: 2036–The end of the world as we know it? Apparently, there is chance (1 in 6,250) that the earth will be hit by an asteroid in the year 2036. The asteroid could hit our planet with enough force to completely destory a small state. According to an Orlando Sentinel article I read, “A direct hit on an urban area could unleash more destruction than Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 Asian tsunami and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake combined.”
Sometimes, reality really is stranger and scarier than fiction…
